Dear President Bush,

Never before has America been the victim of such widespread deception, in which words now mean their opposite. Most of this comes from you and from those in Congress who do your bidding. For example:

"Operation Iraqi Freedom." A brutal, endless military occupation that has destroyed much of Iraq and killed or severely wounded over a million men, women and children and has made orphans of many more children. It is sending home U.S. troops in body bags or in many cases as physically or psychologically traumatized people.

"The War On Terror." Confusion you've created. To go to war is to attack someone, which makes us a terrorist to him and to all of his loved ones. Your attacks have compounded the worlds' suffering and made it a far more dangerous place, not safe and secure as you assured us it would be.

"Patriot Act." Takes away freedoms given to us by our nations' founders, freedoms that have stood for over 200-years and had been the envy of much of the world.

"Tax Cuts." Whose taxes were cut? They've done wonders for America's wealthiest people but little for anyone else. And the rest of us must work that much harder to pay for those tax cuts and for the huge deficits you've run-up while in office.

This deceptions list could go on and on but you get the idea. The purpose of this piece is not to attack you, but to help you salvage any potential good in your presidency.

Because of the confusion that now exists in what words mean, I've gone to the online Merriam-Webster Dictionary to define some words you'll want to put into practice immediately. They are:

TRUTH, "sincerity in action, character, and utterance." "the state of being the case: FACT: the body of real things, events and facts." Without truth you are lost and your leadership will take our nation down with you. Clearly this is already happening.

PEACE, "a state of tranquility. a state or period of mutual concord between governments. a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity." It's not too late for you to declare a cease fire in Iraq and in Afghanistan and negotiate peace agreements. Peace won't help the Pentagon and they'll aggressively fight it but for now they still report to you.

LOVE, in our context, "unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another; as (1): the fatherly concern of God for humankind (2): brotherly concern for others." If you love humanity it is way past time for you to show it.

COMPASSION, "sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it." As you have caused so much suffering, it is incumbent on you to stop it, and do all you can to right the wrongs you've committed.

Mr. Bush, you claim to be a "Reborn Christian" but you defy most of what Jesus stood for. This is your chance to see the light. Truthfully and sincerely seek peace, guided by love and compassion. Also, help to restore America's democracy as well, a democracy you've gravely endangered, for it has been cherished for over 200-years by its people.

Raise your voice and speak from your inner-being, the part of you that came to this life hoping to elevate yourself and to help others do the same.
