Faux News stirs up a new hornet's nest - videogame fans
http://news.filefront.com/ea-requests-fox-news-correct-errors-and-misstatements-about-mass-effect/

<snip>
“As the parent company of BioWare, the studio which created the game, EA would like you to set the record straight on a number of errors and misstatements which incorrectly characterize the story and character interactions in Mass Effect.”

“Your headline above the televised story read: “New videogame shows full digital nudity and sex.” Fact: Mass Effect does not include explicit or frontal nudity. Love scenes in non-interactive sequences include side and profile shots - a vantage frequently used in many prime-time television shows. It’s also worth noting that the game requires players to develop complex relationships before characters can become intimate and players can chose to avoid the love scenes altogether.

FNC voice-over reporter says: “You’ll see full digital nudity and the ability for players to engage in graphic sex.”
Fact: Sex scenes in Mass Effect are not graphic. These scenes are very similar to sex sequences frequently seen on network television in prime time.

FNC reporter says: “Critics say Mass Effect is being marketed to kids and teenagers.”
Fact: That is flat out false. Mass Effect and all related marketing has been reviewed by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) and rated Mature - appropriate for players 17-years and older. ESRB routinely counsels retailers on requesting proof of age in selling M-rated titles and the system has been lauded by members of Congress and the Federal Trade Commission. In practical terms, the ratings work as well or better than those used for warning viewers about television content.”

Should anyone be surprised that Faux News is once again caught red-handed in a vicious lie?

1. The videogame industry makes more than the film industry.
They are no longer going to be the media's punching bag.

3. Not to mention the Fox Network
That network has been a haven for sexually themed shows over the past two decades. Married with Children? Simpsons? Family Guy? 70s Show? Every one of those shows have been more sexually suggestive than 95% of the M-rated games currently on the market.

4. Fox is making a deal about it because you can have "alternative lifestyle" relationships
You can play a female character and develop a relationship with another female *gasp*. I would just about guarantee this is why they are chose to single this game out even though they don't state it openly.

I'm an avid video gamer and I've noticed that Fox has really taken steps to demonize this segment of the economy. I own the game in question and I've played through it twice - there is no full nudity or graphic sex scenes. The scenes that are there are so tame they are laughable in a "soap opera" kind of way.

This is a complete non-issue. Glad to see Bioware and EA stand up and fight back against this nonsense.

5. errr... that's a lot of protesting over simple semantics.
Giving the video game a "Mature" rating guarantees that those under 17 years old will do anything to get their hands on that game.

It sounds as if Fox News is making much ado about nothing, and EA will be profiting handsomely from the free publicity.

6. I'd like to see EA sue.
Actually, I'd like to see everyone sue Fox when they pull this tabloid crap, which they do every other minute.

THERE IS NO GRAPHIC SEX IN Mass Effect. Faux is using a complete assohole's misinformation about the game. NONE OF THEM HAVE ACTUALLY FUCKING PLAYED IT TO CONFIRM THEIR BULLSHIT!

Here is an example of the ongoing story that has many a gamer pissed off beyond words:

On a side note: it is sub par though in comparison to Bioware's other work according to one DUer that I trust's review and nothing to do with sexual content.
