Want to stimulate the economy? Raise the minimum wage effective immediately
Instead of giving people a one-time paltry deal, how about giving people some meaningful money? Money that they can count on every paycheck? Also, instead of simply raising the minimum wage once in a blue moon, why not peg it to something relevant - ie inflation, cost of living, etc?

There needs to be a comprehensive reform in this country, and minimum wage is just the beginning. We need to halt the practice of employers scheduling their employees for just enough hours to avoid giving them benefits. Until we have a single-payer health system in this country, we need to require that any business with a certain number of employees to offer health care and other benefits to all employees - whether they're "full time" or not. There's no fucking reason why mega-corporations like Walmart and Sears should be allowed to get away with scheduling their employees just enough hours to avoid benefits.

1. Agreed
You know the federal minimum wage is ridiculous when ARKANSAS has raised the minimum. Sigh. Unless the minimum goes over $8 an hour, I'll never get a raise, though.

2. Very good idea!
If we give the money to the lowest wage earners, they are bound to spend the money and it will continue to help long after the bushes have looted the treasury and crawled out of the WH.

3. You are absolutely right !
Add a subsidy for child care, and you would lift millions out of poverty. But of course they don't want to do that -- they want an underclass of serfs. -- Wanet

5. You are probably right but I am
suprised they haven't blamed the last raise for the economy going south yet.

7. Just once, I'd love to hear the following question asked during a debate
"(insert rethug), why do you hate poor people?"

Hell, they do it to us by accusing us of hating the troops, or not being patriotic because we oppose their fascist plans. But in this case, they really DO hate poor people!

8. You make way too much sense, and I agree. Why can't the geniuses
in this admin, or Congress, come to that conclusion?
