God, this coverage is getting comical. I had no idea it was such a patriotic holiday.

I know.
It seems almost as patriotic as the 4th of July.

It's annoying.

It is like a National Holiday.

People get together with friends and family.

Large feasts are eaten.

Nwxt thing you know, there will be "Superbowl Sunday Sales".

And "After Superbowl Sales".

Anything to promote mindless comsumption.

17. The reason I boycott the Super Bowl
Disclaimer:
****I AM NOT CALLING FOR ANYONE ELSE TO EMULATE MY ACTIONS, OR FOR THERE TO BE A LAW BANNING AMERICAN FOOTBALL****

I don't watch the Superbowl because on no other day on the calendar will so much violence be committed against women. Statistically, this has been proved year after year. Instead, I volunteered at our local domestic violence shelter earlier in the day. There may come a day when this is no longer so, but we're far from there yet. Until then, I won't be watching the Superbowl.

One other disclaimer:
****NO, I DON'T THINK THIS MAKES ME A BETTER PERSON THAN ANYONE ELSE, OR THAT IF YOU WATCH THE SUPERBOWL YOU'RE NECESSARILY GOING TO COMMITT AN ACT OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. I'M MAKING NO ACCUSATIONS HERE. THANK YOU.****

36. You've showed a lot of class, apocalypsehow...
Most people don't have the guts to thank someone who's corrected them with clear evidence that they'd been misled, and then publicly announced their intention to examine that evidence for themselves. I'm embarrassed that you received a personal insult here. I'm hoping that person will apologize to you. If not, then you're the better person here. P.S., not watching the game either, although will probably check out the 4th quarter. I may be a progressive, but still a closet jock---there are guys on TV doing something with a ball, and sooner or later the TV will go on , although probably without sound.

25. Thank you, Monkey Funk---I was about about to look up those same statistics
it in no way minimizes nor excuses the sickening amount of violence against everyone in this culture, to point out this falsehood intentionally promulgated and still believed by many many people, especially progressives.

Although my status as an "idiot" is up in the air, your status as someone who has the capacity to be rude when it is uncalled for is not.

22. I'm watching it on Canadian TV, so at least the commercials aren't so tacky
Speaking of commercials, NFL football and so play stoppages is one of the primary reasons why I'm mostly a hockey fan these days, although I love the playoffs.

Go Giants.
