At what point do we collectively recognize the last straw when we see it? At what point is our back broken?

The neocons win. DC is a cesspool

There is no longer any reason for an ordinary citizen to participate in the political system.

A pox on both parties and on this blighted excuse of a country.

8. yup
but I don't see revolution anytime soon. people are way too apathetic and complacent.

maybe when hunger and cold become tangible experiences for more of the middle class . . .

3. Heart DODD
I passed outrage several years ago--in fact, every time that I thought we had reached the bottom, I discovered another layer underneath. I've been wondering for 4-5 years what it would take to get people marching in the streets and demanding to take back the country. Still waiting...

But just imagine what people like Dodd feel--working every day trying to stem the tide, "up close and personal" with the people who are trying to take our freedoms and scare us into submission, rob our future, etc. etc.

We can't give up. If anything, we need to fight harder.

14. We need MORE Senators like Dodd
and like the 35 Senators who voted YES today on the Surveillance Oversight Amendment

WE NEED TO WORK FOR MORE SENATORS LIKE THIS. NOT THROW OUR HAND UP IN DESPAIR AND GIVE UP! IT'S TOO IMPORTANT.

7. I heard an audio of Scalia
on the radio today excoriating one of the lawyers arguing before the Supreme Court for suggesting that torture was illegal.

I tend to agree with you some days.

Scalia is the kind of crazed fuckwad that we need the democrats not to nominate to SCOTUS, so I shall hold my nose and continue to participate in this dysfunctional government of ours, for as long as our country may continue to survive

12. You found the recipe for them to win. If we no longer participate! I take exception
not with the sentiment or the insight and understanding of the implicatiopns of events, but with this:

"There is no longer any reason for an ordinary citizen to participate in the political system."

There is no such thing as an "ordinary citizen" in the sense that there might be an extra-ordinary or non-ordinary citizen. How are members of Congress not just citizens like everyone? How did they get to their positions of political power. By the support of other citizens, plain and simple. Participation determines who makes the decisions. If anything, we should be lamenting not having been more active 20 years ago, when it was determined who would be the leaders today!

Our lesson should be, participate more to get the candidates you want today for tomorrow's leadership!

13. We're way past that point

And still relatively few Americans notice. Each time you think it can't get worse, it does. It's so disheartening.
