Father testifies on son's suicide in Iraq

A Sanford man whose 20-year-old soldier son committed suicide in Iraq three years ago told a congressional hearing Friday the military needs a free, efficient way to get “second opinions” on mental health. snip

Scheuerman testified that a chaplain observed his son sitting alone with his head bobbing up and down on his rifle. Then an Army psychologist “relied solely on standardized test scores, misdiagnosed and dismissed Jason back to his unit with recommendations that caused more harm than good,” Scheuerman said. “He made the situation worse.”

His son committed suicide with his M-16 rifle July 30, 2005.
