Bush Talks, Market Falls
It is fun to watch the little market ticker on the news while Bush makes his rare and befuddling speeches, especially today. The DJIA was hanging around -4 when he started, and by the time he was done, it had fallen to about -51! Even Wall Street has given up on him.

(He started talking at about 10:00 and ended at about 10:30.)

The speech itself could have been a re-hash of most any of his speeches - playing the fear card and flogging the corpse of 9/11, all with a smirk on his face as if he was sharing an inside joke with someone in the front row. Disgusting.

1. There's always the danger that they'll end up dragging him away..
in a straight-jacket to a little rubber room. I'm sure that's what Wall Street fears every time he opens his mouth. Is this the day he totally loses his crap on live teevee?

2. True that ...

He had to go to the interior of the Pentagon go find an audience that wouldn't run him out of town on a rail* but there was something in this speech. For reasons I can not explain I did not jump up and change the channel when he came on, I listened to him.

It was the same old shit OK, he could have made the same speech 3 years ago, and maybe he did - lots of it sounded like dusted off old stuff. There were some slight hints in it though. Listen closely and you'll hear words of pull out. Also that 4-star clown who's name I can no begin to spell, betray-us as he is known, will be coming back for another dog and pony show next month. I'd bet he says a reduction is now desirable, and the Administration will orchestrate a great good whoop and holler about it being part of the President's plan, and a sign of success and all that. Then they will put together a timetable that cleverly hides a continuation of whatever the troop level is we have now. In short, expect another round of solid lies.

*did you note the mixed metaphor in the "John Adams" series on HBO in which the tax man was both tarred and feathered and run out of town (sitting-on, rather than the more realistic tied-to) a rail?

4. I'm too cheap to subscribe to HBO.

I'll have to catch it on DVD, I've heard it's very good. The review I read said that they portrayed the tarring and feathering as more violent than what modern-day Americans would picture. Torture is always violent isn't it?

They're getting ready to cut and run, no doubt, this thing is unwinnable. It's just a giant sucking money and death pit.

I imagine they're just trying to hold out until November, it'll come crashing in on them just like the economy did.
