That is a simple summation for those wanting a highlight on Carbon Credits - there are of course many price variances by website/provider. Just thought I would toss it out there for you folks on the go who may not have time to surf from work, etc.
5.8 tonnes of greenhouse gas generated by the average 4x4 or sports car driven for 12,000 miles.
That would = $104.40 (Some sites have more extensive calculators for your foot print, varying prices, etc).
Current Projects (AGAIN - this is just ONE website of many, just trying to get folks the general idea)
mycarbondebt.com is supporting the work of The International Small Group & Tree Planting Program, TIST (www.tist.org), in collaboration with Carbon Clear. TIST empowers small groups of subsistence farmers in developing countries to reverse the devastating effects of deforestation, drought and famine. These groups have identified local tree planting and sustainable agriculture as their top development goals; TIST expects to provide them with the long-term funding to achieve these goals by selling the relevant greenhouse gas credits. TIST also backs the groups with health (including HIV/AIDS), education and nutrition support.
We invest in TIST’s activities in India & Tanzania because they meet our guidelines for efficiency, additionality and long-term benefit to society. We particularly like TIST’s approach because the organisation is not just interested in climate action as an end in itself. They view the trading of greenhouse gas credits as a way to promote local wellbeing.
To date, the small groups organised and funded by TIST have planted over 445,000 trees in India, and over 700,000 trees in Tanzania. In order to provide a guaranteed offset, TIST more than compensates for any trees that do not survive to maturity. It plants 11 trees for every tonne of carbon dioxide that is being offset. More information about TIST’s measurement process can be found on TIST.org
