When have you been wrong? (political/issue missteps)
We've all made decisions and said/done things that we've ended up regretting. Various positions we've taken in the past that seemed to be dead-on at the time are ones that we look back upon and cringe with embarrassment, guilt, or both. Does anyone care to share? Is there anything you've done to make up for it?

Mine is pretty bad. I'll admit that I was originally for the Iraq war until almost 3 months in. I'm not sure how but I made a quick 180 on the entire situation one day and have been pretty vocal in my condemnations of the invasion and all of those who lied to us and caused it to happen.

2. I voted for Barry Goldwater.
A couple years after that, I discovered how corrupt the right-wing of the Republican party actually was and did a 180 degree turn...to the point of campaigning for Adlai Stevenson. That didn't work out very well, obviously, and now I find myself in a reprise of 1972 with a couple of mediocre candidates facing a well-financed opposition. I think I'm glad to be an old fart...I can't take much more of this crap.

3. I used to like Barbara Bush
I never would have thought she could make that "beautiful mind" or Katrina remark. She is really quite a battle axe.

I accepted what they said about the WMD, but never supported an invasion. I realized they lied when they said they had to "find" the WMD. You can't 'know' something exists if you don't even know where the hell any of it is.

4. In 1968, I wrote we should give Nixon a chance. What a dim-witted decision that was!

I knew I should write "Don't trust that damn crook." Live and learn.
In the interest of national unity, post-election, I went stupid, I guess.

5. I thought Bill Clinton was a Progressive
He fucked over every working person in this country signing NAFTA into law.

A Republican's wet dream.

6. Five years ago, I believed the CIA screwed up the pre-Iraq War intel
and W believed it.

I was still pretty naïve then and unaware of the PNAC or any of the history of its members.

10. Well, I've "mispoken" from time to time.
I've been misinterpreted a lot. I've been taken out of context. Some of my statements have become "inoperative". But I've never been wrong. :-)

19. I've only been wrong once but that
was only because I thought I was wrong. Just kidding!! :P

I guess when I still believed President Clinton was a liberal. :eyes:

That was before NAFTA and also his having to be pushed into helping the homeless.

20. I thought there were really 2 parties separate from each other and always voting D
was a safe bet, then I became aware of how the MONEY PARTY transcends party lines. I also thought the Dems were working behind the scenes to correct the stolen election (at least of '04).
