4. He has to overcome Mike Gravel for the Libertarian nod, first.
After that, he can split the Pukes. Especially if McDubya chooses Condiliar Rice for veep. Puke heads will explode, they will split and their guts will scatter America.

7. Maybe. OR, maybe his job is to derail the Libertarian Party this time.
Remember what they did to the Reform Party?
They bombed it into oblivion for Bush.

The Rs know what to do with a political move on their right.
I'd look to that motivation first, before drawing any conclusions.

21. Have you followed Bob Barr the past 7 years?
He has been extremely extremely disgruntled at his own former party, to the point of becoming a spokesman for ACLU (literally and figuratively)....

I don't doubt his sincerity on this score, though, obviously, I'd not support him on other issues.

...that the NRA and other gun rights organizations are not happy with McCain. If Bob Barr could pull some of that constituency to his campaign then it's possible that he could cause some real damage to the Republican ticket.

41. Barr bid could hurt McCain
Can a conservative former congressman who helped impeach President Clinton, is a board member of the National Rifle Association and has done contract work with the ACLU dent Sen. John McCain's presidential bid?

That's exactly what Mr. McCain would face if Bob Barr, the former Republican who joined the Libertarian Party two years ago, wins his adopted party's presidential nomination.

"Barr obviously is dangerous. At least he negates any possible Nader benefit," said David Norcross, a New Jersey member of the Republican National Committee and its Rules Committee chairman, arguing Mr. Barr would hurt Republicans at least as much as Ralph Nader, who has announced his own independent presidential bid, would hurt Democrats.

Republican campaign pros said a Barr bid could range from causing them some damage all the way to being the equivalent of Ross Perot's 1992 presidential bid, which many Republicans think split their party's voters, unseating then-President Bush and electing Democrat Bill Clinton.

Former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr eased into presidential politics Saturday with an announcement that he has formed an exploratory committee to gauge voter interest in his candidacy as Libertarian.

If there are "sufficient numbers" of people behind a Bob Barr presidential race, he's running, the former Republican said.

His announcement brought whoops and applause from the audience of 130 Libertarians, mostly from Midwestern states.

"We are at a tipping point," Barr said, "in terms of the willingness of voters, in significant numbers, to consider alternatives to the major parties."

Barr conceded it was unlikely he could win, but he said his potential candidacy would be an opportunity to preach the Libertarian philosophy.

"I don't think any past performance by a Libertarian candidate is any benchmark," he said. "Are my expectations that the Libertarian candidate will win ? No. But with a credible candidate, anything is possible."

Edited on Mon Apr-07-08 01:31 PM by SoCalDem
If Bob Barr teams up with Ron Paul (he's got supporters & $$$), we could win Alaska AND Georgia...making a LOT of the recalcitrant states "unnecessary".. They are welcome to come along, but we would not need to be held "hostage" to their tantrums..
