Need some advice

I print the newsletter for the nearby American Legion post. I don't have any control over its contents, i just run it off the printing press. I've been doing it for years and it's a good account. The latest issue contains an article penned by the Post's Commander regarding Barack Obama's hand placement during the Pledge of Allegiance and also his lack of a lapel pin flag. He spells out his name to include his middle name, (starting to get the feeling he's a wingnut) and concludes his article by saying "and this guy want's to be our president? Heaven help us."

I hate to lose the account, but I really don't want to print that shit. What to do? any suggestions?

1. If this is an account of yours, and you are not the editor, than I don't think you can do much

If you are only supplying the offset press operation that creates the hard copy and you don't have editorial powers, it wouldn't do to refuse content or otherwise edit out objectionable material and may even get you a civil suit. Begin looking for other accounts, perhaps?

If people don't take a stand when they see obvious distorted propaganda, they are, in effect agreeing with it.

Suppose it were a Klan newsletter, whipping up "facts" about a crime in preparation for a lynching? Would you print it?

Suppose it were a Nazi newsletter, going on an anti-Semitic tirade? Would you print it?

Tell the commander, to his face, that you are not going to repeat lies and that he can go sit in a stall and wipe off his newsletter by himself.

I have a "friend" that started a machine shop making parts for the Gov't. Basically some machined part for machine guns (among other things). We know where those are going? :(


I gave him shit about it and that he should be ashamed. His excuse at the time was " If I don't, someone else will" As if that's a valid excuse?

Anyway, he is feeling a bit of guilt lately and wishing he didn't go in this with his partner who is apparently a total winger.


I suppose those weapons need to be made, but with those weapons being used to murder innocent people in Iraq... i can't support it.

Send me a pm with your email, and I will forward it. It is funny because I do not say the pledge of allegiance. I quit when US invaded Iraq in 2003. I teach first grade, and at Monday morning assembly, I stand quietly when they pledge. No one has ever asked me about it. I had this woman's child in first grade three years ago.

It would not be the first time I turned down work containing personal attacks on someone. I happen to like just about everyone at the Legion post. This Commander, who is in his last month as Commander as they just held elections, is someone I've never met though nor do I want to.

First time I found it I spent hours looking through all the fun stuff there. Good luck and yes, it's good to have facts in hand from another source when you confront these types.

patently false. The rest was the editors decision to pull the article. And I told the editor that I would not be comfortable running that bullshit article.
