"Jefferson gets seat on Homeland Security Committee
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The House Democratic Caucus voted on Tuesday night to give Rep. William Jefferson, D-Louisiana, a seat on the House Homeland Security Committee. This comes after the caucus stripped Jefferson of his seat on the powerful Ways and Means committee last June.

Jefferson is entangled in a federal bribery investigation related to his dealings with a telecommunications company. Federal investigators found $90,000 in cash in his freezer in 2005 after Jefferson allegedly accepted a $100,000 bribe from an FBI informant. Despite the investigation, Jefferson was re-elected to a ninth term to his New Orleans' seat in a run-off election in December.

Jefferson said after the meeting the caucus vote was 'not contentious' and added there was 'no dissent.'"

This is our fucking side doing this. If they're up to this bullshit, then all hope is lost for this system.

I hope your blood is boiling like mine is, because we have to do something about this. It's up to us.

6. The fact that he received this seat after a vote where a majority...
of the Democratic caucus in the House voted for him to have it, is deeply troubling. It means that the corruption is not limited to a couple members, but a majority of our side is willing to do that.

11. I think it's up to us. There will always be corrupt bastards who try take advantage of the system...
it's up to we the people to stop them and remove them from power. However, Jefferson's home district didn't do that.

There will always be loopholes in the campaign finance laws, the solution is not limiting that. (Though all donations to any political organization should be open for scrutiny.)

What we must do is educate the American people not to be a bunch of mindless drones, and teach them to actually research the records of the people they plan on sending to Congress.

When people put out vile adverts they should suffer political consequences for them.

If we don't listen to the ads, then they won't work.

8. No, with someone in a position of power it's rather the opposite...
in a court room, yes, that's different, but when it comes to politics we don't have to presume innocence, and we shouldn't.

We have given these people power over us and they must constantly demonstrate they are using that power for the good of America.

The FBI finding that money in his freezer makes this man a very suspect character. No, he shouldn't go to jail without a trial, obviously, that would be wrong.

However, he shouldn't be given a seat until he is cleared of the charges, if he is going to be, which I highly doubt.

You would deprive him of his right to hold that seat without due process?

12. Due process is in a court of law, not the court of public opinion.
He ought not have a seat until his name is cleared.

18. Excuse me?
Allowing a politician who is under investigating for alleged criminal acts to get into power where he might abuse that power is insane, and I can assure you that that will cause damage to the US Constitution.

How dare you insult me just to protect someone you idolize. We are a nation of laws, not men.

The founders would be very upset that political affiliation and admiration is interfering with the rule of law.

Jefferson is lucky that he's a member of Congress, a normal person would have been sitting in a jail cell until they could post bail, if they could afford it.

That's whom. I can't wait for next year's primaries. We need to get a list of the folks who for in favor of Dollar Bill's committee assignment. They need to be ousted in the primary and replaced with someone who isn't corrupt.
