11. tuned in just in time ...
I got to the channel just in time to hear the good news.

I'm really really happy to hear about the successful landing. These unmanned missions to Mars are absolutely amazing.

But the thing that immediately struck me (in addition to the weird blue shirts), was: where are the women?! I immediately started scanning the room to see if there were any women at the JPL Phoenix mission control, and saw just ONE woman. As a woman who works in science, this bugs the hell out of me. It's 2008, and there are still not enough women in science and engineering professions. That's not the case in medicine, which has seen more female doctors in their ranks. But science and engineering still seems to be very very male-dominated professions. Our education system is so screwed up.

12. I noticed that, too --
and I wasn't looking for it. It's just so odd these days (which is probably a good thing) to see a group of professionals that isn't more evenly made up of both genders.
