Vatican: No Dames as Priests, Got It?!?
The Extremist Pope strikes again.

from AP, via The Tennessean:

Vatican says female priests and those who ordain them will face automatic excommunication
Associated Press • May 30, 2008

VATICAN CITY -- The Vatican firmly rejected attempts by women to become priests in the Roman Catholic Church, reiterating in a decree today that anyone involved in ordination ceremonies is automatically excommunicated.

A top Vatican official said in a statement that the church acted after what it described as "so-called ordinations" in various parts of the world.

Monsignor Angelo Amato of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith says the Vatican also wants to provide bishops with a clear response on the issue.

The church has always banned the ordination of women, stating that the priesthood is reserved for males. The new decree is explicit in its reference to women.

In March, the archbishop of St. Louis, Missouri, excommunicated three women -- two Americans and a South African -- for participating in a woman's ordination. They were part of the Roman Catholic Womenpriests movement, which began in 2002.

The decree was published Thursday by Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, which in a headline called the ordination of women a "crime."

The congregation said it acted to "preserve the nature and validity of the sacrament" of ordination.

The decree -- signed by the congregation's head, American Cardinal William Levada -- said that anyone trying to ordain a woman and any woman who attempts to receive the ordination incurs automatic excommunication. .....(more)

7. According to a Roman Catholic priest I heard interviewed years ago
in Washington, we should all remember that even the Virgin Mary didn't attend the Last Supper. She was downstairs helping prepare the meal.

I kid you not!

13. However...
We've only had 43 (or 42) of those in 200+ years.
Catholic church has just a *few* more priests, and they've been around a bit longer.

9. Hey Rev Pfleger - here is your entitlement

Male entitlement. Catholic priests, and bishops - rows and rows and rows of all males, very suffocating for woman presence.

11. St Therese of Lisieux ...
... wrote that there is no theological or other reason to deny women the priesthood. And she is not only a canonised Saint, she is a Doctor of the Church -- which means her doctrine is officially free from error. I can't imagine her being impressed by Cardinal Levada.

If you don't know her, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Th%C3%A9r%C3%A8se_de_Lisieux gives a nice outline of her life and work.

that it was adopting a "hands-on" approach to the problem of pedophile priests.

14. What exactly is the reason?
Why does the church not believe women should be priests?

Are we deficient somehow?
Do men have closer relationships with God?
Is it tradition?
Something about Jesus having only men as his apostles?
Is it blatant sexism?

16. The reason which has been given in the past is that women, being women
do not physically resemble Jesus. So what that means is yes, we are deficient because we lack a penis and testicles and have breasts and a womb and a vulva. Another reason often given is that none of the 12 Apostles was a woman. A reason for allowing women to become priests in the Roman Catholic Church which is sometimes advanced, and rarely responded to, is that Jesus chose to appear to the 3 Marys before anyone else following his resurrection.

17. You really have to wonder
why these bastards are so afraid of a woman as a priest. Could it be that they are simply misogynists? Could it be that *gasp* women would not be pedophiles and would blow the whistle on those who are? It's really puzzled me all these years, and one of the reasons I became agnostic, and later, an atheist. There is just too much going on in the world for me to worry too much about the subject, though. The more I see of the Church, the less I want to do with it.

*everygoddamthing* is Eve's fault, and that sin has been inherited by every woman born since.

How can you even come up with a concept like that?
