Remember the Movie "V"?
I was cleaning out some files and ran across this little bit I saved. I know it came from someone who posted it here soon after the movie "V" came out - it is about the 2000 election of course. Just thought I'd repost it for your reading pleasure. Wish I could attribute it to the proper author.

Remember remember, the 2nd of November;
The vote rigging, treason, and plot.
I know of no reason
Why vote counting treason
Should ever be forgot.

2. Yeah, I remember
Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

5. Not to divert, but I thought you meant the V movie from the 80's
Marc Singer, lizards from space. This was the first show my parents used to try and bribe me to clean my room. I knew they'd do it, so I cleaned it before they could use it against me. :-)

You mean V for Vendetta. A very good film. With actors and dialog. V, the TV movie didn't have that problem.

22. "Icky Rhodes" would be one serouisly kick-ass pseudonym, I tyellyaWhut!
I've often thought that I could pen a medium-fair NOVEL,
if only I had an impressive 'Nom de Plume' to perch atop
the precariously-balanced stack of my collected musings,
recollections, and unlikely experiences.

But my REAL name is "Richard Steele"...there's just nowhere
to go from there but DOWN. :(

23. The books to be written can be recorded - my father had one published

In which they recorded his life through dialogue and questions.

Use your middle name. Don't worry about names, mine means Mr. Clean happy
in Danish.

I'm still working on my crapy book since the 90s.
Its a sci-fi novel history novel that goes from the dawn
of man to space settlements outside of the solar system.

It follows one soul that was always helping people move during great migrations
and even small ones, be it cavemen, through the black death, to the Americas,
the pool of tears, the great depression and beyond.

I'm a lousy writer, but sometimes have good ideas.

14. I thought the same thing.
I loved the series. A lot of boys still have good memories of Jane Badler the mouse eating bad girl.

Didn't care to much for V for Vendetta honestly. Found it a bit of a simpleton's version esp compared to the graphic novel or similarly themed films such as Children of Men or Brazil

21. V For Vendetta is actually a graphic novel published in 1982
and then it was supposed to be set in the UK during the 90's. So not quite about the 2000 election.

36. It's about alien lizards disguised as humans taking over the planet.
The other movie folks are referring to is a Hollywood rewrite of an "anarchist" graphic novel from the 1980s with some political content elided... but then I guess many DUers are probably under 30 so may not remember the original V. Older sci-fi movies that critique Cold War paranoia feel more cutting to me. Even 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T, the live action movie by Dr. Seuss. Perhaps because they do not assume a politically disinterested and conservative/individualistic audience at the "end of history" which we are supposed to have been living in according to the Clintons.

32. Pushes up glasses, turns up all Rush mix tape...
<nerd on>

V for Vendetta is a graphic novel by Alan Moore from the 80's that was written during Thatcher's England...when she was seriously floating the idea of putting AIDs victims in camps, among other lovely things...she and Ronnie were buddies, need I say more...

Anywhoo, it's a wonderful graphic novel and if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. The movie completely ruined the ending, missed the point in a big way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_for_Vendetta

<nerd off>
