The wife John McCain callously left behind
Crippled by a car accident when he was a PoW, she’d lost her looks and her health. But soon her husband found himself a beautiful young heiress instead.

A must read for "feminists" who plan on voting for McCain in November.

4. including his poor wife. I wonder if there was a hidden clause in the
divorce that said he'd stop the money for her medical if she said anything mean about him

and WHERE did all that money come from?

he surely can't afford it on his own. Did little Cindy tell Johnny that she'd open up her giant purse to fund all those bills?

how come nobody's asking about that?

3. I do not think anyone should pass judgment without
knowing the whole story. Carol does not hold a grudge. This should tell you something.

Or are you purposely filtering out her reasons?

27. uhhhh, yeah. I was going by the reactions of others quoted.
she's either a saint, deluded, or afraid that if she does open her mouth, the money stops.

what do you think?

even crazy Ross Perot is quoted as saying he's disappointed in McCain. did you read the whole article?

8. I'm glad it works okay for you!
There were times during my relationship I didn't look as good as I did when I met my husband, yet he stuck by me. I don't care if Carole still adores him, he did not honor his wedding vows. There are plenty of situations I can excuse a divorce, but not this one. He felt he needed a trophy wife (and the fact she was rich didn't hurt) to continue his ambitions.

26. I don't see how these two positions can co-exist
1. She realized she met an immature asshole
and was okay with him being not in her life anymore, plus she got the health payments.

2. But despite all her problems Carol McCain says she still adores he ex-husband.

If for one moment I thought my hubby was an immature asshole, I know I would have long passed the stage of adoration.

36. I doubt that or your marriage wouldn't have lasted this long
Like you I have many divorced female friends, but I don't know many who still adore their ex husbands. Some are still very bitter and shattered emotionally and like you I understand how they feel. That said, more than are few are more than happy to have unloaded the immature 'forever young' 50 year old to some unsuspecting naive young woman and the words they use to describe their Exs don't come close to adore.

Marriage is not easy and I don't know how or why mine works but I'm pretty sure that those of us who enjoy long marriages are anything but immature. I think the two words that best describe my own marriage are trust and friendship. At no point did either of us buy into the notion of until death do we part - we made up our own vows and were married in a civil ceremony - life has been good to us I guess.

14. That Carol is either a saint or scared.
As a 65 year old woman who has known lots of women who were tossed aside for younger models in middle age, I have to tell you that the pain that these women feel is sometimes just ruinous. Some women, especially nowadays, are much happier after a divorce. But they are the exception.

I am the lucky half of a long marriage. I really feel sorry for Carol McCain. I have lots of friends like her. Some man takes the years in which they are beautiful, vital and healthy and when they begin to get old find someone younger. It destroys many women. I do not respect men who do this for whatever reason. It's their choice, of course and usually, objectively speaking the women are better off without these men.

The interesting thing is that a lot of these men would never part from their dogs (if they have them). They treat their dogs better than their wives. And many of these divorces are not due to really bad relationships but rather to the man's need to feel young.

19. One small question:
Not to absolve McCain, but according to this story, his first wife, Carol, was married to someone else and had two kids with him who the couple adopted after they married. What happened to her first husband? The story doesn't explain and I'm having a hard time figuring out. I've looked at quite a few stories online and all they seem to do is say when he married her and that he adopted her sons she already had. This article mentions her previous marriage and says she met McCain while she was still in it, but never says she was widowed, divorced, etc.

THIS is the guy with the big-ass moral values?

Certainly! If you take your "moral values" from the same book that newt gingrich and henry hyde and bob barr and dan burton and robert livingstone and the rest of those sanctimonious GOP hypocrites do.

I'm saving this one to send to those people in my circle who insist upon sending me anti-Obama, anti-Hillary, anti-Clinton, anti-liberal, anti-Democratic Party material. Back atcha with hugs, kisses, and a cherry on top, "my friends".

WELL worth remembering, and passing along. GREAT counter argument for all those lousy lie-filled emails you're gonna get from now til November.

31. Lots of marriages break up and there really is such a thing as a
no-fault divorce. The case can be made that several prominent Democratic politicians weren't really mature enough for marriage until they were in their forties or fifties. Toss in the upheaval of gender expectations of the last 40 years and it's a wonder anybody's stayed married.

That said, it does seem as if John McCain married both times with an eye to advancing his career. I believe a Navel Officer needed to be married back then to be considered stable enough for command. It's been implied that the most desirable attributes Cindy had were her large wallet and political connections.
