Congratulations, Republican lawmakers. Thanks to your favorable legislation allowing the exportation of American jobs, lack of punitive action against employers of illegal immigrants, and favorable legislation for the oil companies who are now robbing us blind, you have created your dream of a submissive proletariat.
According to May’s ADP, workers are working “more productively” — longer hours and for less pay. With the threat of lay-offs and outsourcing, you have left the “working class” no choice.
Of all the assumed employers of illegal immigrants, 450 have been prosecuted in 2006 — in the United States, that is. The current trend is to present the illegal immigrant as the “enemy” and yet, we do nothing to deter their entry. A “wall” awaits building. We do not fund our Border Control adequately. We look aside as the cheap labor crosses, and then condemn them publicly as we enjoy their services.
And finally, oil prices. “How can we possibly blame oil prices on Republican legislators,”˛you ask? Remember 2001? Vice President Dick Cheney met with heads of Shell, Exxon, British Petroleum and Chevron as part of his “energy task force.” To this day, he will not disclose the minutes of those meetings. Vice President Cheney is the spokesperson on energy in Saudi Arabia, where he proclaimed that oil prices were “driven by the market” and praised the Saudis on their management of oil resources. As the heads of these oil companies are testifying in front of Congress, remember who was there at the get go.
So, your dream has come true — just one problem. Your submissive proletariat can’t pay their mortgage, their medical bills, their gas bill or feed their families. They are looking for change from the self-serving policies of your doing. They are voting in record numbers. Maybe something good did come from this pile of stench.

" It is obvious this person, blind from their raging anti-Republican diatribe, does not understand basic market economics and insists that two human beings are completely responsible for America's fossil fuel reliance. An intellectual you may be in your writing style; un-informed are you in substance, theory and veraciousness. "

" Workers are also slaves to their jobs (like abused wives are trapped in dangerous marriages) because of the broken down, immoral healthcare system in this country.
There are two kinds of Republicans, billionaires and suckers! "

" Bravo. I had forgotten about Chaney's secret meeting. Also heard Slim Pickins saying that the high price is good - keeps folks from using so much gas and polluting the environment. Folks are sharp, they'll figure out ways to get by.
This would be his attitude now that he has gone "green" by investing heavily in windmills. I feel so manipulated. "

" ellisprzr : your condescending BS wont work anymore. Democrats are more educated than Revolticans now, remember? The intellectuals are on the left now, all that is left on the right is uneducated sheep. "

" Very good opinion piece! Kudos for taking time to do so!! Perhaps if more citizens wrote to express their opinions, based on fact, things would be different? "

" Bitterness has obvoiusly eaten this lady alive. Her constant railings are always negative and hate filled. To listen to her we all live in a terrible place, and everyone is evil. People that have this type of attitude usually do all they can to make their outlook become reality. "
