A rant about a particular example of sloppy journalism:
Last night I watched the NBC Nightly NEws report on the flooding in the Midwest. I think it was three separate reporters who said " I'm reporting from --- where a third of the state is now flooded" Somehow I think they meant to say that there is flooding in a third of the counties in the state, not that a third of the state's land mass is currently underwater!

Also, with all the technology now available, would it kill someone to throw up a map showing the actual extent of the flooding!

1. I don't know why, but that made me laugh
Maybe John King can pull out his CNN election map and wave his hands around to raise and lower flood levels. Of all the annoying things this campaign season, that map and his fiddling with it all the time have to be at the top of the list. I'd like to see him put it to better use showing where the floods are! What made me laugh was I got mental pictures of the graphics - rowboats where it's the worst, sandbags where they're keeping the waters at bay......and I know it's not a laughing situation in the least, but the images popped into my head.

2. I live in Iowa
There is a lot of flooding, but I'm pretty sure a third of the state isn't flooded. But there are a lot of areas flooded, including the city I'm in. Again. The worst in north of here though. For now.

3. To me that's *deliberate*, and not accidental (as "sloppy" suggests), but yah, in any case.
