Conyers Applauds Supreme Court Decision Upholding Habeas Corpus Rights
Conyers Applauds Supreme Court Decision Upholding Habeas Corpus Rights
For Immediate Release
June 12, 2008

(Washington, DC)- Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) released the following statement in response to the United States Supreme Court's decision reaffirming habeas corpus at Guantanamo Bay:

The Supreme Court has affirmed what we've known to be true for some time: that detainees at Guantanamo Bay have a right to challenge their imprisonment in a court. It is simply not the American way to deny that right and now as the Supreme Court has ruled, it is unconstitutional. The Court was rightly outraged that some of the parties in this case had been held for six years without being given the right to challenge their detention before an impartial court. I applaud today's decision and look forward to the scales of justice being returned to their proper balance.

====================
This means Bush was violating the Constitution!

1. Thanks for being on the side of the American people on this one, Congressman Conyers
Now about impeachment. Please do impeach this president (and his vice-president). In the past, the little guys have been punished for the crimes of the Republican administrations. This time, the big guys, the bosses should be called on the carpet. And you know who those bosses are -- Bush and Cheney. Don't let Bush leave office on his high horse. Please. He is a common crook and should be shown to be what he is.

Impeachment is necessary. Thank you, Congressman Conyers. You decide. You represent us.

And * also said he doesn't agree with this SC decision... (expect him to violate it like he brags about spying on U.S.)
