Bridges in Minnesota.

13. Just to be consistent, if any of those things happen in the next 8 years under Obama
does that mean it is infrastructure failure under the Democrats? This kind of reminds me of religion where God gets credit for all good that happens, but if anything bad happens then it is the Devil's fault. As far as flooding goes, there are a good number of dams, levees, dikes, and berms that are locally or state controlled even when Democrats are in control locally or in the state. Some berms and levees are even on private property.

My point is that there is plenty enough for which to blame the GOP. If we are allowed to blame them for everything then I would like to lodge a complaint about all of the rain we received here recently as well as all of the snow and lousy weather last winter.

14. Maybe for the physical infrastructure that would be true...
...but as far as the medicines and foods, that is clearly a result of their failed policies.

16. I was referring mostly to the physical infrastructures,
but I would guess there are other areas where some of the blame might spill over to Democrats. We may be the best and preferred party, but we are not perfect.

17. And don't forget...
...the accidents may happen, but what did the GOP do once they happened?

What investigations were done?

Once more problems were discovered, what did the administration in power do about that new information?

15. The outbreaks of food-borne illnesses is a direct result of Bush policies
FDA's Weak Food Inspections Are Bush's Fault

by SusanHu
Sun Apr 01, 2007 at 05:27:21 PM PDT

Today, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill) issued a press release, calling "on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to account for weak links in the pet food inspection system as the federal government confirmed the presence of a chemical used to make plastics known as melamine in samples of the recalled Menu Foods pet food."

But -- due to the Bush administration's across-the-board evisceration of government regulatory agencies -- the FDA is bleeding both field staff and its corporate-independent inspection capabilities.

This growing pet food scandal -- tragedy, really -- has everything to do with the Bush administration's removal of agency and Congressional powers, folding all controls under a dictatorial "unitary" presidency that defers regulation to for-profit corporations, stripping regulatory agencies of their capabilities.

YES. Even the pet food recall crisis is POLITICAL. And directly tied to the Bush administration.

Cuts at FDA Jeopardize Stomachs, Security

Amid high profile food safety crises such as the spinach contamination of 2006 and recent salmonella tainted peanut butter, the FDA has been reducing its commitment to food safety, according to an Associated Press article.

* There are 12 percent fewer FDA employees in field offices who concentrate on food issues.
* Safety tests for U.S.-produced food have dropped nearly 75 percent, from 9,748 in 2003 to 2,455 last year, according to the agency's own statistics.

The article also reminds us food safety is a legitimate homeland security concern:

After the Sept. 11 attacks, the FDA, at the urging of Congress, increased the number of food inspectors and inspections amid fears that the nation's food system was vulnerable to terrorists. Inspectors and inspections spiked in 2003, but now both have fallen enough to erase the gains.

One wonders if the pullout of FDA employees has emboldened the enemy.
