Here's what we're up against....
a buddy got this email from another friend. Stupid, stupid, stupid in soooo many ways. They're out there, and they vote. (Repub, of course.)

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

OPEC sells oil for $136.00 a barrel.
OPEC nations buy U.S. grain at about $20.00 a bushel.
Solution: Sell grain for $136.00 a bushel.
Can't buy it? Tough! Eat your oil!
Ought to go well with a nice thick grilled fillet of camel ass!!!

1. Funny how conservatives never let the free market get in the way of being bigots.

2. Well there is a sort of symmetry about it
When all the oil is gone $136 a barrel will look good.

When the American grain belt has become the American desert due to climate change, $136 a bushel will be reasonable.

Comedy + time = tragedy.

3. Saudi Arabia is a food EXPORTER.
The Middle East caught on to that trick about 20 years ago...we can't starve them out.

6. Actually, not so....
BUT... they are buying up farmland in Asia and Africa.

Only 3 % of SA is arable, and lots of ME OPEC countries are in the same boat. The developing world needs that oil bad.

So, to turn the dumbshit email around back at the dumbshits, we might point out that OPEC can get food anywhere, but we need their oil.

8. Sort of...
" The Saudi government decided to embark on an ambitious
agricultural promotion two decades ago, as part of its overall
strategy to diversify the structure of its economy away from oil.
In spite of difficult climatic conditions, Saudi Arabia has
succeeded over these years to modernize its agricultural sector
by introducing new and modern technologies, fertilizers and other
methods of cultivation. As a result, Saudi Arabia's wheat output
touched a peak of 4.5 million tons in 1993. Overall, Saudi
agricultural production amounted to a surplus and growing exports
to neighboring countries."

Yes, there are "however"s, but my point is similar to yours. We need their oil a lot more than they need our food.

4. Except they are going to have to start eating 5 loaves per day
While we will still have to go on an oil diet.

A barrel of grain goes much further . . .

5. Clueless: corporate-industrial farms can't grow wheat without oil...

for their petro-chemical based fertilizers, pesticides, and allied crapola.

Nor can they move it from the farm to the market without oil...

Not that the obvious facts ever made a dent in a republicon mind...

9. "no crude, no food" was the redneck call in the 70's. As if it made any
sense whatsoever. Right away, the dumbest of the dumb ideas are floated. The americans must be the most stupid bunch on the planet.
