2. She's getting the Gregory slot, hands down
She's FAR too good to just be a panelist, considering how
well she handles both "Countdown" and "Race for the WH."

YOU GO, GIRL!!!!!

3. That segment with Turley...she was so direct and erudite; the thing pissed me off
because I know we're being sold right down the river tomorrow on telecom immunity, but for those watching who might not be as familiar with the facts of the outrage as we here at DU, she and Turley laid it out PERFECTLY.

4. She IS GOOD - isn't she?
Rooting for her own slot, but not to displace Keith of course.

She does her homework AND can reply in an instant with the correct interpretation of whatever is spewed at her.

Rhode's Scholar showing at each and every turn.

Wonder what her sport was -- those scholarships usually go to academically accomplished students who also have a significant sports achievement.

I am guessing LaCrosse or Field Hockey. Would be amazed if there was no sport in her resume, especially in that her sexual preference probably would have been scoped out by the screening committee - or perhaps not given their blinders to such issues.

7. I would hope she went out for basketball. You need that for the contact sport that politics is.
Itwould have helpedher when Scarbororo trash talked her last week. She coulda come right back at him! Rhodes Scholar debating points don't count much with the crappy techniques of Joey the Scar...

Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 08:30 PM by crikkett
And why would you assume field hockey or lacrosse? Are you on the East Coast? Those sports aren't so big here in the West.

She went to Stanford as an undergrad and before she hit the big time played on the Air America softball team.

If you're that curious you could write her blog or 'ask Doctor Maddow' by calling her Air America show. That would be a good bit actually. http://www.maddowonline.com

22. Not East Coast
Just wondering after having a qualified niece from Harvard miss out on the Rhodes by a hair-- she was a record swimmer in addition to top ten academic at Harvard.

That is why I guessed a more contact sport.

Edited on Tue Jul-08-08 08:23 PM by crikkett
She and I are about the same age. She's inspired me in many ways, the most important was to bolster my suspicion that what I have to say is valid and important.

And that's a huge paradigm shift.

It's time for us Gen-Xers to step up and take the reins, dontcha think?

34. More likely
is that Dan Abrams leaves to take over MTP. He is already part of the management at MSNBC, and his show is geared towards calling BS on both sides of the journalism spectrum. He'd be a perfect moderator, and plus we'd get the added bonus of KO leading in to RM every weeknight.

36. Nice thought. But I doubt Danny will be given MTP - Ever
He's not MSM Corporate Establishment enough.

One of the old guard will be given that show ( or they will do a rotation of moderators for the 6 months after November.

I think their waiting to make a permanent decision until after they see if the Reich can steal another election.

39. I think he is corporate enough
he was the general manager of MSNBC until last October (he left the post in order to focus on 'Verdict'), plus he is the chief legal correspondent for NBC News. Obviously, you'd want a moderator of MTP with good knowledge of the law. However, he may not tow the company line enough, and his constant fact-checking does irk some people.

24. Getting ready for work in the morning, I always watch MSNBC, even
when it was Imus. Best thing I can find at the time if the wing nuts are all over some issue like immigration on C-Span, but jeezu, Pete, I can't stand Scarborough! Gawd dang! Just lies and smiles about it. Mika, who is very intelligent and could make a career for herself, bends to Scar's silly "Chucky-T!" shenanigans. She demeans herself by looking like she admires and wants to emulate Scar.

23. She is great! What a contrast from her first fill-in...
I adore her, but she was noticeably nervous the first time she filled in for KO, and she even commented on that herself. But now she has hit her stride, and she is totally knocking 'em outta the park!

And the camera absolutely LOVES her. She looks great, sounds great, and is 100% in the zone now!

27. I hate to say it
but I think she's better than Keith. She manages, better than nearly anyone in the business, to maintain her objectivity while tossing in small digs and ironic twists. I do hope she gets her own show in the near future.

That being said, I still miss KO, his special comments and his sincere contempt for Bushco.

35. I'd say KO does a better job at Countdown - RM would be better served
If she were allowed to create her own format and 'schtick'

If she's going to take someone else's format over - I LOVE to see her take a whack a Tweety's.
Direct confrontation with the idiots Tweety generally has on.

get down and dirty with his guests, a la Matthews... He seems more confrontational by nature, whereas RM can maintain a more objective persona on camera.

37. She is fantastic
I don't want to see her take over Countdown, that's Keith's show but she should get her own slot that she can mould to her own requirements. Perhaps put her and Keith on back-to-back, Countdown followed directly by The Rachel Maddow Show or whatever it would be called?
