$359.00 - Three Hundred and Fifty Nine Dollars! - .......... for a pair of JEANS!
*Who* in their right mind would pay $359 for a pair of blue jeans???

I couldn't believe it when I saw the tags today. I was shocked last week to see some at $159 and $250. I remember back in the early 80's when we referred to Jordace and Sergio Vallente' jeans as "those $80 California britches"....

The $359 jeans were made by 'True Religion'. Here's some that cost $240/pair.... http://www.truereligionbrandjeans.com/store/productslist2.aspx?categoryid=97&a=50,17

The $159 & $250 jeans were made by '7 For All Mankind', like some of these here: http://www.7forallmankind.com/Flare_with_Flying_A_in_Havana_2/pd/c/43/np/43/p/1850.html

In todays economy, why in the world would anyone pay that kind of money for pants?

THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY NINE DOLLARS..... FOR *PANTS*!!!

9. Sevens can be found for $30-40 if you know where to look.
They're my sister's favorite, she's got a ton, and even though she's a total brand whore, she did get them all at semi-reasonable prices.

but I think they were mostly used for that price..

I bought a pair of Tommy Hilfigers for $12.50 at a Goody's before... they were like 75% off....

Making them look "used" is the "look" they seem to be going for.

95. Because they're listed as used, or 'previously worn' or 'previously owned'
... or 'gently worn', or some such term. New ones are listed as NWT (New with tags) or NWOT (New without tags)...

Of course, on something like these, it would be hard to tell if they were used if the tags had been removed.

health and fitness magazines (I read them while on the cycle at the gym). I can't remember the label; it's from one of those newer designers that has been creating lines just for Target.

4. Jean prices are insane
I used to wear Lucky Brands and get them at Nordstrom's half yearly sale for $30. I just went to the half yearly sale a few weeks back and even on sale they are now $75. WTF is up with that. I know that $75 is nothing compared to True Relgion, or 7 for all mankind, but still its pretty insane for a pair of frickin jeans. I'm glad that I switched to Carharts, I can get those for under $20 a pair out here.

Question though, why do they charge more for jeans with holes in them? I don't want to pay for new jeans that already look like they are a few years old. It's one thing to get worn jeans from ARC or the Salvation Army stores, but come on.

but I guess as long as *someone* keeps buying them, they'll keep selling them... they called the ripped, faded & patched look "destroyed'....

I guess *my* jeans are pretty 'hip', since they have some frays and small rips... but they got that way from actually *wearing* them... it's almost time for some new ones...

Why did you choose to focus on the, perhaps unfortunate, use of an attributive adjective?

Do you really think the poster meant her post in the context which you have framed it? Perhpas you would have kept your "gotcha" comment to yourself had she used "silly", "crazy", or "funny" as the adjective modifier in her sentence?

19. Although that is quite a bit for jeans, I think we are spoiled with cost of cheap clothing
The cost of clothing, for the cheaper stuff anyway, hasn't gone up in price nearly as much as the other essentials in the past 30 years or so. I think that it has something to do with the exportation of American jobs and sweatshop labor.
If you didn't care so much about name brand, think about how much clothing you could buy compared to your monthly rent or house payment.

I venture into wal-mart about every 8 or 9 months and pick me up 4 or 5 pairs of the Faded Glory jeans, $11.99/pr, and a few shirts... the rest of my 'wardrobe' consists of shorts, tank tops & flip-flops...

Needless to say, I'm not a clotheshorse nor will I ever grace the pages of GQ Magazine..

49. Nobody says nothing about what I wear
I make my own damn jeans,or buy cheap ones and decorate them myself.
I get compliments or astonished looks but nobody inquires how much I paid for them.Because they are really "different" I have been asked where I got them before ,I told them I made them myself. They usually say....Oh.
too.

54. The only reason I still have hands...
is that I don't work with scissors or other sharp objects. :-)

I have friends who sew, knit, etc. I can layout a wicked network, deploy Linux servers, but ask me to sew a button and I might lose an eye.

oh, come on, sont zootka they're turning kids into slaves
They're turning kids into slaves just to make cheaper sneakers
But what's the real cost, cause the sneakers don't seem that much cheaper
Why are we still paying so much for sneakers when you got little kid slaves making them
What are your overheads?

they mean it jokingly, but it's also a fair point about this consumerism. I'll pay what's fair for the labor and materials involved. I won't pay for a damn label.

55. I don't buy expensive shit
I don't buy jeans that cost over 12 bucks. Most jeans I get are around 6 or 7 bucks.I wear them until they wear out. I go to outlet/discount stores to get my stuff.I rip the tags off because they irritate me,and the money I gave the store isn't much because the jeans I get are out of style, overstock or irregulars.(I try them on first always)

That's like buying a Hummer and refusing to fill up the gas tank because you want to protest gas prices.

79. depends on the label
I usually leave labels alone on stuff I buy, because I like the company policies.

if I pick something up at a thrift shop that has "GAP" or "NIKE" or whatever prominently, I either outright rip the label off or find ways to be creative with it.

56. Just means there's a market for suckers like that...
...as for me, I'm into economic Ghandism now...

I'm tired of my money going to support the Iraq war or sweatshops in China, or plain old unsustainable farming methods.

I've set my goals to pay off my credit cards, become debt free, and support individual artists and designers and move towards using as little new resources as possible.

My fabrics and plastics are recycled and reused - bedsheets and old comforters become fabric yarn, plastic bags become "plarn" and plastic "fabric," and old sweaters "frogged" or felted to be made into new clothes, bags, or something else useful.

Why buy $359 jeans when I can find similar jeans or rescue denim and make something as good or better myself?

For anybody here who hasn't seen Etsy.com, check it out. If you do crafts, you can sell there, and if you're not into making your own clothes, art, and gifts, you can find a million great things at reasonable prices. The whole range is there from $1 on up to thousands... Why support some huge corporation that makes all their clothes in China when you can go buy beautiful handmade clothes for similar prices, made by a real live human in our own country?

62. You can spend more than that, if you're of a mind to.
That's mid-range.

High-end designer jeans can run in the low thousands, I hear tell.

If you make 30K & spend $30 for a pair, it's .1% of your income.

So if you make 300K, the equivalent pain is $300. Etc.

65. Blue Jeans
I don't get. But I'm still wearing at least once a week a $600 black pant suit I had made at a tailor 2.5 years ago.

I hate shopping. If I find work clothes that fit well and are well made - it's economical and a better use of my time to buy it and wear it to death than go schlupp around a mall on a Saturday afternoon. And I'm glad I did.

Clothing Stores/Designers (doesn't matter if it's Saks or Target) are trying to dress 35 year old professional woman like tramps. I refuse to buy into it. Hence why in need of summer clothes this year (my stuff was beat to hell) I ordered from LL Bean. Guess what! You can actually buy pants that don't show your stomache and ass crack and not look like a tramp at work. Whoda' thunk it.

68. I have levis, gap jeans, and a few of those you mentioned. will i be burned at the stake later?
I drive a Subaru, not a hummer. ewe. I dont buy things that often, and the things I do have I take very, very good care of so they last a really long time. The jeans you mention are probably the most comfy jeans I own, not to mention they look smokin hot if I do say so myself. They're cut differently and are super soft. Jeans like these can and are used as dress pants. Nobody can see any labels on them. I dont care about that stuff. Most of my wardrobe comes from target and I have three requirements for purchase: comfortable, useful, and affordable. Of the two pairs of shee shee jeans I own one was bought marked down at Marshalls and the other was bought full price from a local downtown merchant partly to support the woman owned and operated local business trying to make a go of it despite the large retail competition she faces. I'm trying to do that more. Anyways, I'm not rich. I splurged and I got em. And I'd do it again to if the opportunity or need arose so suit me.

This thread is kind of silly. Especially the hummer comment. Lots of snobby and judgemental statements and assumptions about people you don't know.

76. After I learned to sew

I saw how nonsensical the prices for women's clothes are. I could understand paying a fortune for Haute Couture because there's a lot of craftsmanship involved in making them, but jeans?

The most overpriced item is the bathing suit, $60 to $100 for less than a yard of fabric!

always have name brand items. Many times with tags still on them. Are these jeans made in China. I always look at tags and if they are made in China they can stay on the rack. I would gladly pay more for clothing mad in the USA.
