Fire-breathing segregationist grand dragon Lott neglected to mention that.

6. really? then why did gas prices go up?
Edited on Tue Jul-15-08 12:54 PM by tulsakatz
Gas prices in cities across the United States soared by as much as 40 cents a gallon from Tuesday to Wednesday, a surge blamed on disruptions by Hurricane Katrina in Gulf of Mexico oil production.

7. Well what the HELL. How do we contact Andrea Mitchell then??
I mean, isn't it remotely possible that she's never been told different? Maybe she would do her JOB as a journalist if she knew different?

Please note the phrase 'remotely possible'. I know she's married to Alan Greenspan and all.

8. Well, the Dem sitting next to Lott didn't say anything either.
There are plenty of articles about the massive spills on MSNBC's own website.

The segment was pure propaganda, with the express goal of hiding the truth.

13. I'm sure Andrea Mitchell would just LOVE to hear from ALL OF US
about her negligence in reporting the truth.

Contact her through her MySpace site: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=370675847

We need to hold these people accountable!

14. seriously? do you think she would get the message?
I just went there and the smarminess was overwhelming. I guess I could wade in there, post my comment, and take a shower. IF you really think it would make a difference...

15. There's a "send message" link on the left side.
I doubt Andrea herself checks messages, but I'm sure someone must give her a run down on what's being said from time to time. Might have more pull coming from an unexpected source...

I just sent a message that said I was disappointed that she failed to do her job and point out the incorrect statements.

10. an observation here ...
the Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for the U.S. waterways ... like the Mississippi River, which the ACoE keeps clear for business at a (non-privatized) cost of over a billion dollars a year.

The ACoE is also responsible for levees ... which New Orleans was surrounded by. Not the local government's control, but Repukes and their sycophants were trying to lay it on the Dem mayor.

So, why didn't the oil companies, who had the refineries there, spend some of their own (record) profits to shore up the levees, instead of sucking at the teat of corporate welfare from the government?

12. Murphy Oil, Chalmette, LA
Edited on Tue Jul-15-08 01:25 PM by KamaAina
pre-K pop. ~30,000, immediately downstream from NOLA itself. The "battle of New Orleans" was actually fought there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murphy_Oil_Spill_%28Chalmette%2C_Louisiana%29

On August 30, 2005, the storm surge from Hurricane Katrina caused massive failure along the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet levee and inundated St. Bernard Parish 4 to 14 feet of water. Murphy Oil refinery was under 6-18 feet of water. A 250,000 barrel above ground storage tank was dislodged, lifted and damaged in flooding associated. The tank contained 65,000 barrels of mixed crude oil, and released approximately 25,110 barrels (1,050,000 gallons). The pressure from the flood waters kept the water inside of the tank until the waters had receded to about 4 feet, five days after the storm had passed. As the oil released it flowed along with the flood waters from east to west. The released oil impacted approximately 1700 homes in an adjacent residential neighborhoods of Chalmette; an area of about one square mile. Several canals have also been impacted: the 20 Arpent Canal; the 40 Arpent Canal; the Meraux Canal; the Corinne Canal; the DeLaRonde Canal; and, various unnamed interceptor canals.

Lott better watch it. His brand-new porch might catch on fire from his pants! :grr:

16. Lott and the rest of those idiots should be made to live in that area
for the rest of their lives. Since it didn't happen, according to them, they have nothing to worry about. Evil bastards!
