Raw Story: Seven years on, no answer from White House on anthrax attacks
Seven years on, no answer from White House on anthrax attacks
07/16/2008 @ 2:28 pm
Filed by Eric Brewer

It's been almost seven years since — in the weeks immediately following 9/11 — anthrax powder sent through the mail killed five people, threatened the lives of two Democratic senators, terrorized the entire nation, and helped prod a panicky Congress into passing the so-called Patriot Act.

In the intervening years, not only has the killer remained free, but missteps in the investigation have had major negative consequences. Just last month, in fact, the Department of Justice agreed to pay $4.6 million to former bioweapons expert Stephen Hatfill to settle a lawsuit Hatfill brought against the Justice Department, the FBI, and former Attorney General John Ashcroft for destroying his reputation and career by publicly implicating him in the case. And Glenn Greenwald has pointed out that in 2001, ABC News was fed false information by several "well-placed sources" (presumably officials in the Bush administration) suggesting an Iraq-anthrax link. That imaginary link was widely cited by pro-war cheerleaders.

At Monday's White House briefing, I asked if President Bush was satisfied with the progress of the investigation into the attacks. Press Secretary Dana Perino told me that she didn't even "know if he has had an update on it."

1. The crime that's been forgotten
Funny how this has all but disappeared from all types of media in the past few years. Not a single mention of it whatsoever. Despite the fact that they keep constantly saying how we "haven't been attacked since 9/11".

I'm no tinfoil hatter (in fact, I usually look down on those people), but this is still the strangest swirl that's surrounded the administration.

3. No mention of it being weapons-grade anthrax, developed here in the US?
I thought that was the case...

7. It is
It was fully weaponized anthrax and a strain that was traced directly to the CIA lab at Ft. Detrick.

Weaponized anthrax is so volatile that it could only have been put into the envelopes within a high level containment facility, meaning the deed was done in that CIA laboratory. Attempting to smuggle it out would have resulted in massive environmental contamination and a lot of collateral death.

This was an inside job, and but for Jeffords's defection and handing control of the Senate to the Democrats, it would have handed Stupid the dictatorship he'd wanted.

8. Experts at Ft. Detrick think the anthrax came from their facility

Even experts at the U.S. bioweapons facility at Fort Detrick think that the anthrax which was used in the 2001 attacks came from their facility:

"In an e-mail obtained by FOX News, scientists at Fort Detrick openly discussed how the anthrax powder they were asked to analyze after the attacks was nearly identical to that made by one of their colleagues.

"Then he said he had to look at a lot of samples that the FBI had prepared ... to duplicate the letter material," the e-mail reads. "Then the bombshell. He said that the best duplication of the material was the stuff made by (name redacted). He said that it was almost exactly the same … his knees got shaky and he sputtered, 'But I told the General we didn't make spore powder!'"

Indeed, 3 of the 4 suspects the FBI is investigating are employees of Fort Detrick, which is run by the Army.

SNIP

There is strong evidence that the anthrax attacks were a false flag attack. Indeed, the bioweapons expert who actually drafted the current bioweapons law (the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989) while working for President George H.W. Bush has said that .
See also this.

At the very least, the FBI and the White House are actively covering up for the person who really did it.

6. Result = the Patriot Act passing in congress
Then a fake Iraq connection for the media to broadcast, followed by a bungled investigation.

Folks, this just does not pass the smell test.

10. Let's see: Who has stymied and all but forbidden research into 9/11?
You may find your answer there. I could be wrong, but witness the trends and as what is there to hide?

12. As a family physician who watched the military desperately trying (and failing) to get its own
soldiers to accept the toxic anthrax vaccine, I know what happened.

First, back story. The military actually mounted a campaign aimed at family docs in the community, asking them to advise their patients in the military to get the anthrax vaccine. This was in the 1990s, when only the US and Russia had stockpiles. Servicemen did not want it because of the high rate of complications and they would go to their private docs to get exemptions.

I have a bunch of cups and other US military give away items that say things like "Anthrax Kills" that were given away to persuade people like me to tell our boys and gals to get their shots.

Come 9/11, the military thought of a better way to persuade the troops and all the ancillary personnel to accept vaccination. Keep in mind that the pressing reason the military needed to vaccinate its troops was so that the U.S. military could use the biologic weapon anthrax on the field of battle without risk of harming its own personnel. There was no proof that anyone except Russia had it, and Russia was our ally.

So, come 9/11, some one within the U.S. military or some other secret government agency conducted one of their secret tests on civilian populations. You know, the kind of test that we only find out twenty years later. They put anthrax in envelops that were clearly identified "You are going to die unless you take antibiotics" and they mailed it, to see if it would work. The targets were members of Congress. The fact that it served a double purpose----to scare the shit out of members of Congress so that they would pass draconian legislation to restrict civil liberties suggests that the Bush administration cleared the plan. Dick Cheney likes dirty tricks that accomplish two things at once. He likes efficiency and economy in his dirty tricks. It is one of his trade marks. The military and/or CIA was probably assured that all of the mailings would be accompanied by warnings to take antibiotics, so no one would be hurt. This test would allow them to see if certain vectors could be used to mail it for assassination and weapons purposes and what concentrations were needed.

What no one expected was that the anthrax would leak from the envelops, leading the deaths of innocent civilians who had no warning. Ooops! A scapegoat was needed. The FBI fingered someone for the press. Panic ensued. The servicemen got their shots.

13. DAMN. I think you nailed it, except for one thing.
What no one expected was that the anthrax would leak from the envelops, leading the deaths of innocent civilians who had no warning.

Cheney and his ilk may be stupid or uncaring about such details, but the lab workers knew. Anyone who actually had to process and handle this stuff KNEW innocent people were going to die. Yes, they did.

It's their JOB to know, and they did. That kind of "seep through anything outside of the lab" capability was probably part of the point when they manufactured it in the first place, the sick little SOBs.
