Moran (D-I can't remember)--There will be no impeachment!
He said his on Washington Journal earlier this morning. Said it in a very matter of fact way. I REALLY do not understand the thinking of the Dems on this one. Both * and Cheney need to be impeached.

1. It's so easy to hamstring these dems if there's an election in view.
2008 is going to paralyze them once again.

6. *'s constituency will not vote for them anyway.
I believe the nation would breathe a collective sigh of relief if they were removed from office and the war were ended. I don't care what the fallout is for individuals in office now. It is the nation that can't take any more. They need to do what is right.

3. Yet go look at the greatest page; there are so many threads with
impeachment as the main topic. Who the hell is giving them their marching orders, and why aren't they listening to us?

10. I'm not sure he should be singled out here
Jim Moran has been one of the better reps from VA on many issues.

12. I understand that most of you want impeachment
but impeachment is not like what you see on law and order. There is a huge investigation time, with Nixon it was the start of his second term, so there was plenty of time. Just look how long the Scooter Libby investigation took. They have fucked up this country so badly that the dems probably figure their duty is to help the average American rather than put all their time into investigating this administration (which would be a full time job). Look how many investigations they have going already.

I WILL NOT bash the dems on this one. I understand that revenge is sweet, but it's not that easy this time. After his term though, he and Cheney may be able to be prosecuted for war crimes, wouldn't it be nice to see them spend some jail time?

17. Straw man.
No where in my post is that iterated. Too many Americans have died defending the constitution for it's rules and laws to be cavalierly dismissed.

20. Can you impeach after they are out of office?
I mean they have done so many awful things to this once prosperous and democratic nation. I can't believe they will be allowed to leave office scott free.

I know you could bring charges against them for some of the crimes they have committed but how about charges against the president for abuse of power? Could we at least take away his tax funded pension? I know it's a drop in the bucket considering his personal wealth, but it will bother me to no end to think we are paying a criminal like bush for the rest of his life.

21. So what kind of monster would warrant impeachment? This one appears
to fit the bill. I tremble at the thought of an admin that could be worse than this.
And what is impeachment for? Why even enter the idea into our Constitution if it isn't going to be used?

18. It may be a cynical way to look at it but the decider is politically
good for the Democrats. Impeachment will give the Republicans a reason to rally for the next election. And lets face it he's made a real mess that's going to be a challenge to clean up. Removing him and Cheney would put the Dem's in charge of the whole ball of wax. They don't have a strong majority in either house so they can't do just as they please. An impeachment right now would not guarantee his removal from office. They would have less then 2 years to fix the mess before they face an election. In a lot of ways it makes sense to leave him right where he is and just try to mitigate the damage he's doing.

19. How do they know with such confidence,
that there will be NO IMPEACHMENT? What happens if an investigation uncovers a smoking gun on this admin? What happens if new info comes to the fore? Yes, I understand that Congress does not impeach in 2 weeks, but if investigations are started that could conceivably lead down that road, then why rule it out altogether, even if it comes in Bush's last month in office? Then he will go down in history with shame as an impeached pres, just like Clinton.

22. Larry Johnson (on Randi) said that Cheney impeachment
Edited on Thu Mar-08-07 09:38 AM by npincus
should and could begin through the House Intelligence Committee, if classified hearings are held and full extent of damage due to Plame outing is disclosed to House members and (highly) impeachable offenses revealed. He acknowledged extensive damages yet undisclosed caused to CIA operations and our intelligence network, and the public would probably not ever hear due to their status... which is a dilema as far as informing the public of the treasonous nature of Cheney's crimes and rallying public support to impeach.

Also, Conyers is on record citing that impeachment ain't gonna happen- now: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=3149932&mesg_id=3149947
