on edit-removed "Gang related" because I could not find any mention of that on any articles. I heard that on a local indie radio station.

Associated Press
Published: July 27, 2008

Police say between 200 and 300 people joined a fight that began inside Raleigh mall.

Raleigh Police Department spokesman Jim Sughrue said Sunday the gang-related brawl began inside Triangle Town Center Mall on Saturday night. Off-duty officers working at the mall requested assistance from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office and the N.C.Highway Patrol.

Sughrue said the melee began inside the mall and continued outside. A 15-year-old was stabbed outside the mall. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A police officer was also injured with a cut to his knee.

Sughrue said eight people were arrested on charges that include felony riot, assault on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct. He did not have the names of those arrested.

3. NOTE I removed 'gang related' from the subject line
I want to be clear that I could NOT find anything to substatiate that in any of the local news stories on this. I heard that on a local indie (I would say left leaning) radio station.

5. You didn't imagine it - It's right there in the second paragraph -
"Raleigh Police Department spokesman Jim Sughrue said Sunday the gang-related brawl began inside Triangle Town Center Mall on Saturday night."

4. I dunno, if they spend money there I don't know that they'd be banned outright.
Malls are designed to be hangouts, lots of kids choose to meet and hang there.

In my town I do see gangbangers and wannabes, though I've never felt threatened.

Maybe they'll need to initiate loitering policies, up surveillance, and hire more security.

6. They will put up a curfew for no kids or teens in the mall unless
accompanied by an adult, from 3pm 'til closing.

They did that at the Mall near my house.

8. Do you live in DE? They just did that at Christiana Mall here too.
Kids are really pissed about it. I was out there at xmas time and started out of the bookstore with my purchase and stepped back in because a bunch of kids with chains etc. were being chased thru the mall by cops. Then we go outside to get in our car and there is a helo hovering over the lot with the searchlights shining down on the cars.

9. New malls in San antonio
are no longer enclosed.

There are 2 that have shut down. The big luxury enclosed mall I guess is still pretty safe. I haven't been there since Christmas. Had to get DGD something from Pottery Barn kids.

The other big mall is always packed with kids.

There is a mall on the river and the last time we were there - some kid threw the jeans he just finished stealing over into the water. Well, they landed in the barge we were riding in. Kid was taken away in handcuffs.

They have had brawls down there.

10. No, I'm in NC.
There haven't been any complaints I've heard about the curfew thing.

I'm sure the teens are pissed (and I'm sorry for the good kids who get screwed by this) but the stores' sales were suffering because people were wary about coming to the malls for all the loitering and loudness, etc. Plus there were several shootings. Then the curfew went into effect.
