but unreported? I have to admit that at the age of 52, I've never really seen anything like it. It is as if the MSM has become completely blind to everything except the reality that they themselves create - I suspect to satisfy their corporate owners. It is so bad that I can't even come up with any sort of analogy to what we are seeing. I find myself just getting sick over it, as the right prepares yet another election theft - from the misreporting of the current state of affairs as "close and getting closer", to preparations for terra threats to juice up the scaredy cats and ignorant...and our so called "leaders" who found power again in 2006 do their best imitation of good little soldiers of the right, keeping that impossibly dry powder ever impossibly dryer...

WTF is happening? Sometimes I think that the only sane and aware people around are just slightly more than the roughly 124K people who, while not always agreeing, keep hope alive on this site. It is hard to fathom where all of this is heading...And, I suspect that to wake up the masses of the apathetic, uninformed, ignorant, spoiled, stupid or "saved", some really bad shit is going to happen. I just hope that it doesn't come to that - but I will never be afraid, will never lose hope, never stop fighting for our Constitution.

Still, it is so, so, so hard to not let this just get to you.

2. Drugs
I got opiates - they're legal and PAID FOR BY INSURANCE!

I'd hate to have to deal with this current world right now without drugs. I'm SERIES!111!!! I'm older than you, and I can't believe what's been going on for seven years. This is not my America.

3. I think of the sane Germans back in the 20s and 30s
and how they must've felt when it seemed like their whole country had gone completely crazy along with its leader.

I think of people in Chile who weren't important enough to be rounded up by Pinochet's goons and executed in that soccer stadium.

I think of Italians who just wanted to be left alone to enjoy life and friends and wine during the time Mussolini's iron fist ruled that country.

I think of Romanians during the hideous reign of Ceausescu.

We know how all those evil reigns turned out. I sincerely hope we can avoid the remedy of losing a war.

However, if history is any guide, few monsters are allowed to die of old age in a comfortable bed, their countrymen mourning them.

4. With a six hour hearing on abuse of power, for starters
Did you watch? It is available on C-SPAN.

WTF is happening? Depends on what media you tune in!!
And, MOST importantly, on what media you TUNE OUT.
Some media intends to cause you to feel like that for the obvious reason.

12. Do you know how to reach these people?
Serious question. If you had a magic wand what would you do to reach them?

And then seriously again, if you had a budget of a couple thou, or even a couple hundred, how could you reach them?

7. I just laugh now
Because it's becoming more and more clear what we as Americans are made of in allowing this regime to continue their genocide colonialism.

Horrible things have happened. To the people like us who are vocal in our criticisms, something even more horrible awaits us...and the Freepers and the Fundies will smile, happy that the "Liberal threat" was dealt with.

And so I laugh. I laugh at the hypocracy, I laugh at the irony, I laugh at the fools who say it won't happen...and I laugh at the chaos that our leaders spawn, the chaos the silent people think they are preventing by not acting.

Freedom has a price- you have to seize it and protect your right to it.

11. I volunteer (outside of my job)
Edited on Mon Jul-28-08 05:12 PM by crikkett
I'm spending maybe 10 hrs/week with a women's charity that raises money for needy families (it's all applied locally)...

...and maybe 5 hrs/month in volunteer work for my town, to promote public and alternative transportation.

That way I'm actually making things happen instead of sitting on my ass in wait. (not that you are. just that I can't sit still to watch it).

13. It has me wondering about white collar crime paying. Really.
I'm wondering what I could get away with if I cover my tracks well enough. To these people, obtaining wealth from your crimes is a great capitalistic plan.

19. If You're Not Frustrated, You're Just Plain Numb
I'm the same age as you and this place has been a salvation for me over the too many years I've been hanging around. As one with a "media" background and been very politically active since I was a little kid, I can't think of a time of such absolute corruption on so many levels and with such little accountability and responsibility. It's seeing a country self-abosorbed in a win-at-all-costs game that swept away any kind of rational thinking or even critical thinking. It's easy to get depressed and give up hope...and that's exactly what the right wing is hoping. It's a game of wills...if they stay tough with their lies and hubris, we'll just go away. I, for one, won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

I'm accused of being an appologist or "not getting it" when I try to rationalize the political realities that we're stuck with...it's the sad reality and my intentions are to understand it and then overcome it. You just can't wave a wand and expect the world...and especially this political system to change...the corruption is too deep, so is the denial. You're asking the cause to fix the problem. That change will come at the ballot box...and, yes, I have confidence in the system and that there are more Democrats in charge of the machines this time around that we'll get a fairer count...my concerns are more with voter supression.

The job ahead is to restore a balance that makes the Constitution function...and the most efficient way to do that is this November at the ballot box...more Democrats and better Democrats. Then we must call upon them to both restore sanity and to push forward with the many investigation currently being stonewalled by this regime's executive privilidge and threats of pardons.

One positive note...just think of how bleak things were...following the '04 elections Democrats were on the verge of political oblivion...facing the threat of a veto-proof House and Senate. We were able to turn things around (no thanks to a lot of GOOP corruption) that began the long road back...the next step is in November...and on from there.

Cheers...
