51. It's sad to think there's even another wing.
All of the Washington insider CYA games get sickening. It's sad when the country mandates a change from this shit and somehow some Dems still hold out and continue to protect this Administration and it's right to burn the Bill of Rights with every motion they make.

Sad.

Things will get real interesting when investigators start going thru the records.
Can you imagine what secrets and criminal activities could be uncovered?

This is goooooood!

16. The first thing I want to see
is the records for the period leading up to the first Gulf War.
My college roomate's penpal in Kuwait was telling of some interesting stuff before Iraq invaded.
Like how Kuwait was stealing Iraqi oil.And how when they left Kuwait they didn't see the Iraqi army massed on the Saudi border. That the first solders they saw were in the 82nd Airborne Div.

Yes indeed,I would love to know the real story behind that war.

I've turned a lot of friends on to them... also, local non-commercial radio station plays them a lot - wmnf.org - they have a link you can webstream at

Someone mentioned that others may retain copies of documents downthread.Maybe a comparison of the two sets could raise some interesting questions and issues.I would think that charges of obstruction of justice,at the least, could result from scrubbing.

my message to Waxman:

Keep up the good work. I have been following the hearings. They have filled me with great hope that the Bush administration is finally being called to account for its actions.

It's flabbergasting how with each passing day more information is being uncovered regarding the manipulations by the bush administration. I eagerly anticipate the day when the extent of Bush and Cheney's abuses are help up to the light of the day.

Thanks-you for your hard-work and diligence.

31. K&R wonderful news, from Robert Parry in 1/2006
The Imperium's Quarter Century
By Robert Parry
January 20, 2006

http://www.consortiumnews.com/2006/011906.html

snip>>

"With the Republican defenses falling apart and with many documents from the Reagan-Bush years scheduled for release in 2001, the opportunity to finally learn the truth about the pivotal election of 1980 loomed.

But George W. Bush elbowed his way into the White House in January 2001 – and on his first day in office, his counsel Alberto Gonzales drafted an executive order for Bush that postponed release of the Reagan-Bush records.

After the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, Bush approved another secrecy order that put the records beyond the public’s reach indefinitely, passing down control of many documents to the President’s descendants.

Thus, the truth about how the Reagan-Bush era began in the 1980s – and what was done to contain the Iran-Contra investigations in the late 1980s and early 1990s – might eventually become the property of the noted scholars, the Bush twins, Jenna and Barbara."

47. Waxman's Staffers and Carbon Copies...
... for me, the #1 question is: what documents from those years have already been turned over to Waxman's staffers, by prior Administrations' officials, for use in hearings?

Just because the Presidential Library has the originals, doesn't mean all the carbon copies are squared away - even in the pre-Internet Age, savvy officials were mindful of keeping a CYA file.

49. John Dean and the Safe House
Funny you should make that analogy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dean#Watergate_trial

"Dean pled guilty to obstruction of justice before Watergate trial judge John Sirica on November 30, 1973. He admitted supervising payments of "hush money" to the Watergate burglars, notably E. Howard Hunt, and revealed the existence of Nixon's enemies list. On August 2, 1974, Sirica handed down a sentence of one to four years in a minimum-security prison. However, when Dean surrendered himself as scheduled on September 3, he was diverted to the custody of U.S. Marshals and kept instead at Fort Holabird (near Baltimore, Maryland) in a special "safe house" holding facility primarily used for witnesses against the Mafia."

Worse Than Watergate: Former Nixon Counsel John Dean Says Bush Should Be Impeached: http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/04/06/1354218

"JOHN DEAN: I was in custody and would stay in a safe house at night. I spent most of that time in the U.S. -- excuse me, in the Watergate Special Prosecutor’s office. I was driven to the office every day from the safe house. I was actually during the time that the trials were going on, I was in the courthouse in the prosecutor's office."

39. I hate to be cynical but...
lil shrub locked the doors to the vault by an executive order. If this passes the full house, and then the senate he still needs to sign it into law or veto it, I'm not sure both houses will have a veto proof majority. In addition, there's always those darned signing statements.

It's a great start and I applaud the effort but am not sure those papers will see the light of day during this admin.

AGain, I say.... You can be sure Waxman is getting plenty of hate calls.

Be sure to take a minute, call a toll-free number, ask for Henry Waxman's office, and thank the staff person who answers. He needs to know we do appreciate his efforts.

And, while you're at it, take 10 seconds to thank the staff--without them, he couldn't do what he's doing!
