Utah millionaire donates money to fight California's anti-gay marriage amendment
PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - One of the wealthiest Utahns is aligning himself with California gays and against the LDS Church. Bruce Bastian, the co-founder of WordPerfect, now says he's giving a seven figure donation to help protect gay marriage in California.

This November, Californians will vote on whether gay marriage should be legal or not.

The LDS Church has already come out strongly in support of Proposition 8 which would amend the California Constitution and ban gay marriage.

And that's why Bruce Bastian is getting involved.

This weekend, at a big human rights fund raiser in San Francisco, Bastian donated one million dollars to fight Prop 8.

3. I hope you've merely read the story backwards
He's giving his money to make sure that same-sex marriage in California continues to be legal.

2. Why should out of state money be allowed?
Isn't that interfering with state rights? The influx of out of state money has set up our state supreme court to be right wing pro business. I know only residents get to vote but all that money means a barrage of ads and since there is no requirement for these ads to be truthful the idiots here end up voting against their own interests.

5. Good for Bastian
and a surprise. When I saw the subject line, I thought sure it was money to DEFEAT gay marriage. Especially since the man is from Utah. I wonder if this story will appear in The Deseret News -- a Mormon church organ (practically). For sure it will be in The Salt Lake Tribune.

6. Thank you, Mr. Bastian. The Mormons believe in independent talks with God.
Sounds like he had a talk with God and decided that God was telling him to support human rights instead of bigotry. Good for him.
