7. The real harm in this
...is that most people who read Gallup's poll results don't have a frickin' clue they're biased, and that will definitely influence those who are (incredibly) undecided.

"Gee, McCain's a real contender...All those people can't be wrong...."

17. Then why do it?
There has to be some payoff in horsing up McCain's poll numbers, otherwise why bother?

19. This has long been their modus operandi
but most of the population don't believe them. I suspect that they believe that if they bombard people with enough bogus polls they can try and steal another election. I don't think that will work this time. It didn't work in 2006 and way more people are now awake.

I knew the 2004 exit polls were right and they stole Ohio. All peer reviewed data shows that what happened there was mathematically impossible.
They don't give a damn - they can only win if they steal the election...NOT THIS TIME!

30. I thought it might be about the election too
But then I wondered how Gallup think they're going to convince people their poll numbers are right and the election wasn't stolen when their numbers are so wildly out from the other polling organizations.

Oh well, I'm sure there's some devious reason for what they're doing. There always is when a Republican is involved.

How many time was Gallup caught over-polling republicans in 2000 and 2004?

11. get on their panel,
I did for three years and each year they sent me an email stating how many people thought * was doing a great job. I tried to skew the results on everything they asked but, I guess there weren't enough of me.

24. So does this mean the polls are invalid? Judge by performance.
Edited on Sat Aug-02-08 05:08 PM by tritsofme
Gallup hits some interesting bumps along the way, but their final polls are usually solid.

You would have a hard time finding people outside of the left-wing blogosphere claiming that Gallup is crap.

I think its much easier for people to discount polls when they don't like the results.

26. I don't discount this poll for any reason other than it is bs.
The ratio of democrats voting in the primary to the republicans (up to the time Cindy's hubby got the nomination) was 2.5 to 1. The polls should reflect this and the fact that 80% of this country is sick to death of the mafia running this country.

So, yeah, I don't like the results because this is the way repugs do business. They pay millions and millions of dollars each year to pollers to get the numbers they want. And the only way they can steal the election again is to promote the illusion that the candidates are neck and neck. How in the world could they steal it if the democrats showed a united front? There is a huge effort to keep the dems from uniting nationally.

28. More proof that election polling is bad for democracy.
I consider polls of electoral races to be, whether intentional or not, a kind of electoral manipulation, a distortion of the democratic process. They should be banned for a certain period of time before the election.
