Anti-Obama books are best sellers
By Hillel Italie, Associated Press
NEW YORK — Going negative against Democrat Barack Obama isn't just a campaign strategy for Republican John McCain. It's also a good formula for selling books.

Three anti-Obama releases were in the top 20 of Amazon.com's best-seller list on Tuesday, despite little critical attention or mainstream media coverage.

"There's a pent-up demand from people on the right side of the aisle who feel that the mainstream media is effusively covering Barack Obama and not critically covering him," says Marji Ross, president and publisher of the conservative Regnery Publishing, Inc., which just released David Fredosso's The Case Against Barack Obama.

Until recently, the most widely read narrative of Obama's life was written by Obama, in the million-selling Dreams From My Father and The Audacity of Hope. The new releases, like McCain's campaign ads, attempt a counter-narrative.

The subtitles are the giveaway: Jerome Corsi's The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality, Fredosso's The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media's Favorite Candidate and Dick Morris' Fleeced: How Barack Obama, Media Mockery of Terrorist Threats, Liberals Who Want to Kill Talk Radio, the Do-Nothing Congress, Companies That Help Iran, and Washington Lobbyists for Foreign Governments Are Scamming Us ... and What to Do About It.

3. There's a maximum campaign contribution amount...
So if McCain contributors can afford to spend more than their $4500 max contribution(or however much the max is), then sure, they'll buy an anti-Obama book for all their friends and family.

4. I was about to point out a similar trend
Typically these types of books are bought in large bundles by conservatives to drive up the rankings and generate hype. Very few people are actually reading them.

5. Exactly. Amazon rankings are very manipulable, at least in the short term.
There are even some books out telling you how to do it. This is too sure a bet for the wingnuts to have missed it, and with a few bucks behind them they can get that filth up into the rankings & buy pairings with other books, etc. Amazon is a very interesting world. I have looked at the Amazon marketing books, and I assume the right-wing operatives have as well.

2. Best sellers a few days after release without mainstream mention?
I smell bulk buying.

Keep your eyes peeled for right wing sites offering them as premiums.

7. Again, Amazon is easily manipulable. They update their rankings so often that
a relatively small number of buys, properly concentrated, can blow the lid off the rankings.

They keep them on the bookshelf next to "Mien Kampf".

11. Bulk purchases by Scaife and Murdoch
Easy to make the lists when you've got a handful of people buying them by the pallet load and then giving them away on rightwing web sites.

12. "Regnery Publishing, Inc." ... says it all
This is the right-wing filth-laundering publisher. They make a business out of massive 'sales' of books by fascist propagandists to the Right Wing Think Tank 'industry' ... where massive funding and discounting covers up the fact that this is nothing but a loose rectal sphincter spewing right-wing diarrhea into the public's stream of consciousness. Absolutely nothing the Regnery publishes would achieve any market penetration without the laundering of money from the billionaires back to the spewers of hate and venom. Coulter, Malkin, Schlussel, and a host of other totally talentless hacks peddling nothing but fuel for bile and bigotry couldn't survive in an ethical publishing industry. Regnery is worse than used toilet paper.

15. Ann Coulter books are the worst.
I worked in a bookstore, and people would call days before they were due out. Couldn't wait to get their hands on them.

Then we'd be accused of "hiding" them. I wanted to wear gloves when touching them. I learned to keep a straight face.

17. You too, huh?
I worked in a bookstore from 2001-2004. We'd have people coming in saying we hide books by Hannity, Coulter, etc. All because these are the ignorant fucks who never set foot in a bookstore and are too dumb to go to, say.....the politics aisle?

I remember one jackass came in looking for a Coulter book, loudly bragging he "only reads conservative books" and saying that a liberal business such as ours must hide them in the back. I almost went off by saying "Yeah, a multi-million dollar corporation is soooo liberal, they want to lose money from dumbasses by not selling a piece of shit book only morons like you would read.". Instead, I just gave him a "WTF?" look and showed him to aisle where he could jerk off to his dream man....er, woman.
