HELP! NEVER MIND -- DELETE. I couldn't wait to respond. nt
Edited on Wed Aug-06-08 01:52 PM by gateley
I sent my sister-in-law an e-mail with the following (with the innocuous message saying I felt compelled to send this because I'd heard someone say that Obama was going to raise taxes on people whose income was less that $250 - and that it appears Obama's plan helps the majority of us, McCain's plan helps the rich. Okay, maybe not so innocuous.:7) I got this response today -- actually two responses in one e-mail from somebody I didn't know. S-I-L must have passed it along.

I initially wrote to ask that my name be removed from all future e-mails supporting McCain's tax proposals, because they would not change my mind, but before sending it, realized that YOU GUYS could give me better talking points with which to refute this crap.

Thanks in advance! :hi:

“When World War II ended, the United States had the only undamaged industrial power in the world. Our military might was at its peak, and we alone had the ultimate weapon, the nuclear weapon, with the unquestioned ability to deliver it anywhere in the world. If we had sought world domination then, who could have opposed us? But the United States followed a different course, one unique in all the history of mankind. We used our power and wealth to rebuild the war-ravished economies of the world, including those of the nations who had been our enemies. May I say, there is absolutely no substance to charges that the United States is guilty of imperialism or attempts to impose its will on other countries, by use of force.” —Ronald Reagan

And - the one I REALLY want to address:

Hello, I was curious how reducing the tax burden on the smallest part of the population that already pays for 80+% of all the taxes is helping the rich? Sounds like its making it more fair. Keep in mind that the people paying the taxes do not use most of the services provided by the taxes. I have attached an article that may help. Another way to look at it is, if you got everything for free (didn’t pay taxes or very little) and it came time to raise taxes for more free stuff, would you hesitate to vote for it? Why would you, it doesn’t cost you much if anything, someone else gets to pay for it. This is what insulating the lower income brackets from the true cost of government is doing. If EVERYBODY paid 35% in taxes I think we would see a revolution regarding all the entitlement programs and subsidies and general cost of the government. But since 60+% of the people don’t have to really pay for it it’s not that big of a deal,,,, yet. What we truly need to do,, is stop spending, cut the size of government by 50% and get the feds out of domestic issues. That’s what the states are for.
