1. No
And I don't limit it to John, Elizabeth knew as well and participated in the sham. Had she been unaware I likely wouldn't be upset with them but the fact that they made a conscious decision to take this chance with Americas future pisses me right the fuck off.

I am an Edwards fan and have no superior moral compass, believe me. BUT... just shit... I'm speechless with the field day the
GOP is going to have with this, it's a gift to them. I'm so sad...

22. Chance on America's future? Give it a rest already.
This is 2 years old and no one died because of his actions.
Save your outrage for the criminals in the white House. Lot's of people died because of their actions.

6. I'm very angry at him.
He lied to his wife, family, supporters, workers, contributors.

He deceived ordinary citizens into investing their time, hope, and money into him.

He took money from citizens who have to scrimp and save, and used it to party with his girlfriend.

He put his squeeze on payroll, and used those contributions to pay her.

He lied repeatedly when asked about this last fall.

Sorry, but he's ripped it with me. If he wants to redeem himself, he can start by personally paying all his contributors back, particularly those smaller ones. Then he can go sit down with Jimmy Carter, and ask Jimmy to let him work with Carter on Habitat for Humanity. He can redeem himself by making it up to people with no expectation of material or political gain.

Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 08:21 AM by TexasObserver
If you don't wish to think it is news, that's your business.

If I want to talk about it, that's my business. And it's none of your business.

So trot on down to the next Non Edwards thread, and busy yourself. Here, you're just being a nag because you think your piddling opinion is the only one that matters. This topic is clearly over your head and above your pay grade.

7. Here's why its damaging
it re-enforces the "all politicians are full of shit" line of thinking.
It puts trust in doubt.
He is the new poster boy for arrogance, Imagine if he had won the nomination... and then he was caught red-handed,
He was willing to deceive us all and throw the democrats chance for winning the white house down the crapper.

He is no friend of this party.

9. I am disappointed with both John and Elizabeth
Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 05:58 AM by Apollo11
We now know that Elizabeth knew about this in 2006, and still told John that she would support him making another run to be the Democratic nominee for President.

Of course John is primarily responsible for his own actions, but they both knew that if he succeeded in winning the nomination, and if the facts if his affair ever came out, it would seriously damage the Democratic Party's chances in November 2008.

Despite her serious health issues, Elizabeth worked hard on John's behalf, even to the extent of publicly criticizing other candidates - notably Hillary Clinton.

"In my opinion, the candidate who's best for women in this race is my husband."
Elizabeth Edwards speaking to The Progressive - August 2008
http://www.progressive.org/mag_intv0807
http://www.alternet.org/story/57463/

"I think one of the things that make me so completely comfortable with this is that keeping that door open to women is actually more a policy of John's than Hillary's."
Elizabeth Edwards speaking to Salon.com - July 2007
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2007/07/17/elizabeth_edwards/index2.html

I cannot think of anyone other that Elizabeth Edwards who seriously questioned the idea that Hillary's candidacy - and her bid to win the nomination - represented a major step forward for women in America.

... and all the while she was covering up for her sleazebag husband ...

19. You are not alone. I'm very pissed that he could think this wouldn't come out
I supported him. I gave him money. I definitely feel betrayed.

The thing that amazes me is that Elizabeth, knowing about the affair, decided to support
him in another run for the presidency. She had to know this would have tremendous blowback if it came out. What if he did win the nomination?

It's very demoralizing. All the lies. Everywhere. From everyone. Who can be trusted?

27. I'm not angry with him at all.

I know nothing more about his personal relationships than what's been shown me through the media and, having had personal experience of how the mainstream media treats relationships, I'm willing to assume that I know a lot less about his relationships than a lot of other people seem to suppose *they* do from the same source.

I really wish this sort of thing wasn't part of politics. If I'm angry with anything, it's the way sex is involved in politics. It's true he's paraded his family about during the campaign, which, given that he had a bit on the side, was more than a little unwise in the current climate of the media's use of sex in politics, but I feel politicians shouldn't be required to prove these family values credentials. I'm not ANGRY with him. I'd far rather politics was about policy.

:)

Seriously though, I am disappointed. I understand how celebrity can take over and one can feel invincible, but he knows better than anyone how the press scrutinizes every move these candidates make - especially when you have a "D" after your name. I still think he has a lot of great ideas. I still think he can help a lot of people. I'm still a supporter... but I feel really bad for the pain it is causing his family right now.
