2. I love Horsey! But...
...I always get this overwhelming impulse to hide his stuff in my soc' textbook so the study hall monitor doesn't catch me reading it.

5. Except for the first two
Most of these show a fundamental misrepresentation of the situation. Russia IS NOT the aggressor.

6. They are now
Once they invaded Georgia Proper and started destroying their cities, my sympathy for them went out the window.

9. Particularly the Tulsa World one

Please everyone, watch out for the propaganda:

The 2000 civilians (reports on Fri and Sat varied between 1 and 2 thousand) were NOT killed by the Russians, but by Georgia's original offensive. The toon wouldn't be funny either way, but as things are, it reinforces one of the big lies of this war.

7. k & r thanks for the toons!
i love seeing the toons but i'm not happy to see the bias against russia in some of those. it looks to me by the reaction of our government, that we had something to do with this fiasco and you know that, if so, the action would be incompetent. anyway, the knee-jerk reaction against russia is just that so far . . . strictly knee-jerk. we really don't know what happened.

everyone automatically blames russia but little lord pissypants could have had a lot to do with this. do you really believe that this was a total surprise to our government? if so, then our intelligence community must have been staffed by monica goodling.

8. I thought the Georgians started this by invading Ossetia. And, apparently, it is about oil.
Georgia, which sits on a strategic oil pipeline carrying Caspian crude to Western markets bypassing Russia, has long been a source of contention between the West and a resurgent Russia, which is seeking to strengthen its role as the dominant energy supplier to the continent.

"Russia has invaded a sovereign neighbouring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century," Bush said in a televised statement from the White House.

Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin accused the United States of hypocrisy in a tough statement that reflected both the measure of his anger at the West. Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said more than 2,000 people have been killed in South Ossetia since Friday, most of them Ossetians with Russian passports.

The figures could not be independently confirmed, but refugees said hundreds had been killed.

Both separatist provinces are backed by Russia. Russian officials had given signals that the fighting could pave the way for them to be absorbed into Russia.

Georgia borders the Black Sea between Turkey and Russia and was ruled by Moscow for most of the two centuries preceding the 1991 breakup of the Soviet Union. South Ossetia and Abkhazia have run their own affairs without international recognition since fighting to split from Georgia in the early 1990s.
