How will you react if McCain wins and becomes President?
I'm convinced that the groundwork is already laid, that the GOP will stop at nothing to steal this year's election. Hell, they've already had 2000 and 2004 to practice, and they sure as hell don't want to lose control this year. Even if many conservatives can't stand McCain, they loathe the idea of a Democratic president even more.

I really feel that we're going to see voter intimidation and suppression on a scale not seen since the Jim Crow days, and voter fraud on an unprecedented scale. How many electronic votes will mysteriously disappear? How many voting machines will somehow malfunction? How many poll locations will be forced to move at the last minute? How many absentee ballots will never arrive? How many felons will show up to the polls, only to be told that they are not allowed to vote? How many instances will we see that mirror our very own Galoglas, where the poll workers tried to deny him his right to vote?

The stakes are far too high for the GOP, and they're making damned sure that they remain high. Even if we're not at war with Russia, they'll make sure as hell that we're back in a Cold War with them, and they'll tell us that only McCain has the ability to take on the Evil Empire.

7. I hate to think that we'd simply bitch, moan, and just go along with our lives
I would hope that there would at least be massive demonstrations in the streets, people refusing to go to work, a nation-wide shutdown.

9. It'll just be another day.
I agree with you. That's exactly what they'll try to do. If they can get away with it after all we know and all our counter-efforts is something else again.

If they do steal it, we just have to do more. This coming election won't fix everything, one way or the other.

16. Take A Friend Or Three To Vote
My wife and I are about to make our plans to once again make sure that as many of our friends can and do vote this year...and make sure there's no reason they don't. In 2004 we helped several of my daughter's friends to register and then on election day we had an informal "election day party"...all of us heading over to the poling place as they all cast their first votes. We're back at it again this year...I'm working with my son and a group of his friends, my wife is putting together a similar group...our goal is to take at least 10 with us when we go vote. I just heard from my daughter who is on her own and living in another part of the state and she, too is organizing a party...including a group of new friends who were former GOOPers and can't wait to vote the GOOPs out and Senator Obama and the Democrats in.

It doesn't take much, but if every DU'er who cares would find ONE friend...specifically one who hasn't voted before or in a long time...and get them registered and to the polls, we can make a difference.

Truth be known, I refuse to believe Gramps can win and I won't lose a minute of sleep worrying about it...life's too short. Get back to me after election day about how I react if things don't go as I hope they will.

20. If McSame wins, I will know that there is no hope for me anymore.
I have put my faith in this government for 65 years. With the recent death of my husband, things will be so tight here, I'm not sure I'll get through the winter without freezing. We never had much of this worlds goods but we paid our bills and enjoyed our simple way of living. I have a part time job and now get his Social Security, which is a little more than mine was. Of course, Medicare comes out of that but everything is so costly that the basics eat up everything. I cannot stand the thought of things remaining the same or getting worse. I'm too old to go back to learn a marketable skill and I know many who have skills that would be in demand in good times. They cannot find work anywhere.

The situation is impossibly bad right now. It may not be hitting you too hard but be assured it is hitting your neighbor.

I wish there was a country where we could go to be away from the fools in Washington but I'm afraid that the borders would be closed to us. We have become so laughed at, so ridiculed, so disliked that we stand alone. All the years of our bragging about the best, strongest, wealthiest etc have gone out the window. The conceit and ignorance of this administration has done us in.

21. I don't know, I just really don't know
I think I would embrace the sweet bliss of apathy, just stop following it, stop informing myself. I would hold a small funeral for the country that I love, and then I would go start doing some of the things my fellow citizens do, like watch Dancing with the Stars, or Nascar. I would drink more.

Or I would see about getting German citizenship, since my mother's German, and a pretty decent case could be made for me getting it.
