McCain On Reinstituting A Military Draft: ‘I Don’t Disagree’»

Today at a townhall meeting, an audience member praised Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for his vow to “follow bin Laden to the gates of hell.” After a long question about veterans’ care, the questioner said she believed we needed to reinstate the draft, to which McCain seemed to readily agree:

QUESTIONER: If we don’t reenact the draft, I don’t think we’ll have anyone to chase Bin Laden to the gates of hell.



MCCAIN: Ma’am, let me say that I don’t disagree with anything you said.

11. My son's freeper father has

always had an obsession about the military. He couldn't get in due to physical issues, including eyesight, while his best friend was accepted. He's never quite gotten over that and tried to start in with the military indoctrination of our son whenever he bothered with visitation (it'll make you a "man", it's the best thing for men, etc., etc.) We got into an argument about it when our son was about ten (years ago, before Iraq started). In disgust, I finally asked how he'd feel if our son were to die in a war, since most wars, with rare exceptions (such as WWII) were nothing more than politicians playing political games to bolster/support a particular agenda and to keep people in line. I couldn't believe it when he very passionately said "why not my son? I'd be PROUD to have a son die in service to his country!"

I was in such shocked disbelief that I just shook my head and left. What the hell do you say to that? What do you say to parents who actually wouldn't mind their kid dying in a war so that they can play the martyr and "ride the coffin", so to speak? It still makes me sick just thinking about it. And, unfortunately, there are way too many parents who really feel that way. My uncle who was in Vietnam said that people feel that way until they actually lose a child in combat. Then they realize they have NO idea what in the hell they were going to be in for. No fucking kidding.

4. There Will Be No Way That McCain Brings Back A Draft

No way. The glue behind the conservative movement is no personal sacrifices at all. No taxes. No military service. Nothing. All the war you want, and no new taxes to pay for it.

Bringing back the draft would mean the ultimate personal sacrifice, and the masses would openly rebel against compulsory service.

All things that a leader should possess, but that which John McCain sorely lacks. God help this country, if the draft gets re-instated.

And they ain't gettin' my son if they do try to push something through. It's just not gonna happen. He has Asperger's Syndrome, so I'm not sure they'd be able to handle him anyway. He's not a "group" person and would have no problem talking back to even the most tight-assed drill sergeant.
