ROVE TRIED TO NIX LIEBERMAN AS GOP VP PICK: JOEMENTUM REFUSES TO TAKE HIMSELF OUT OF RUNNING
Republican strategist Karl Rove called Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) late last week and urged him to contact Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to withdraw his name from vice presidential consideration, according to three sources familiar with the conversation.

Lieberman dismissed the request, these sources agreed.

Lieberman “laughed at the suggestion and certainly did not call on it,” said one source familiar with the details.

“Rove called Lieberman,” recounted a second source. “Lieberman told him he would not make that call.”

Rove did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

1. LIEberman has a habit of doing that. He would not drop out of Senate race when he lost
the Dem primary...and he even stayed in CT Senate race when he was running for VP with Gore.

He does not know how to make a polite exit.

that it's Lieberman in the middle of Barack's speech tomorrow night.
What a great punchline it would be. It'll bring down the house !!

6. Are you people crazy?!
Think about all the vote Lieberman would draw to a McThuselah/Holy Joe ticket! They would totally own almost two solid blocks in Jackson Heights! Can we really afford to take that chance? Obama's only chance might be to promise Lieberman Secretary of State!

13. an even odder couple
My ex-wife cooks for her wealthy, arch-conservative parents. On her way home tonight she called to tell me about one of the dinner guests she served. Dick Cheney's houskeeper was there and couldn't stop talking about how Romney had brought his millions to the table and more or less bought the vice presidency. He said that Romney had been a house guest several times recently and was currently traveling with Cheney. Sounds just weird enough to be true?

10. To quote Dylan,
"How does it feel?"

Joementum gets what Joementum wants, Connecticut found that out.

And seconding the prayer- Please pick Holy Joe, please! It would just make it so much easier on this end.

11. posting it here also - ad supporting Lieberman leaked out? or tease
This appeared while I was on the web - could it have gotten out early? Not faking it - and it is documented on Youtube as of today - not sure if it is accurate, but haven't seen it before. 'Team' is a little generic, but still an interesting ad

Wondering if anyone else saw it.

16. Lieberman causes too many republicans to stay home without bringing in new voters to replace them

For all that he agrees with republicans on, his support of abortion rights, civil rights and a couple of other things kill this idea. If McCain does try to do it he is dead with a lot of the republican party.

17. In all seriousness, this is a decoy.
It's still McCain's call and ten to one he's going with Romney. They purposely put Holy Joe out there as a possibility to lower expectations for the base. When Romney, a mormon, is picked, the base will think, 'well, at least we don't have a PRO CHOICE JEW'.

19. Lieberman is a piece of.....
something, isn't he:rofl:

He probably has the whole thing all planned out.. Mccain "wins"..then Joe starts coming up behind him and scaring the beejeebus out of him, or encouraging him to start learning how to fly an Osprey..or tells him about the fun it is to walk blindfolded down Pennslyvania Avenue..

Joe probably has already ordered the presidential seal socks..with the initials JL on them:)

20. Yep... Novak Came Out Of Retirement To Write About It !!!
<snip>

Lieberman surely doesn't know that much about Republican politics, but he has close Republican friends. One of them prevailed on Lieberman to tell McCain that a McCain-Lieberman ticket would be a disaster for all concerned, and especially for the GOP.

And...

The Republican operative who urged Lieberman to dissuade McCain from picking him believes that there is still a very useful role for the maverick Democrat in this campaign: as McCain's secretary of state. While an announcement in St. Paul of Lieberman as vice president would bring groans from the assembled Republicans, placing him at the State Department would evoke a standing ovation.

At this writing, nobody knows McCain's choice. He is keeping the selection process secret, and his closest aides are in the dark. Could he still name Lieberman after being told by Lieberman himself that it is not a good idea? Nobody absolutely rules it out.

23. It'll almost certainly be Romney.
He was the big money's choice for President, and big business owns the GOP. As much as I'd love to see McCain lose with Lieberman at his side (I think I could come up with about 50 "Loserman" slogans), unfortunately, I doubt that it will happen.

25. I'm thinking Tom Ridge
Here's why: "the new Republican ticket, to be revealed at a noontime Friday rally in a Dayton, Ohio, basketball arena. McCain and his running mate will then travel by bus to Pennsylvania, where they’ll hold an outdoor event...just southwest of Pittsburgh." "officials said he was considering one or more candidates who support abortion rights." "The Missouri rally is being billed to local Republicans as something of a unity rally, since it will feature McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee. A McCain aide warned not to read too much into McCain’s planned guests, however." http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20080828/pl_politico/12915;_ylt=Ag.qYn4xmoK3VfjJh4jxmRVsnwcF In other words, it's not one of them.

Ridge has national security experience to match Biden's. He'll suppress his pro-choice beliefs, just like John McCain did, apparently successfully.

A Liebermann selection would not fly with the Republican base. He really is too liberal, other than on foreign policy.

30. Two words:
Duct tape.

Ridge's national security experience is a joke. And he has admitted that he hyped terror alerts when Bush was falling behind in the polls, based on nothing.

24. I would love to see holier-than-god Joe get into high snit mode when he gets tossed
to the curb again ---> "I'm, uh, outraged. How, uh, uh, could he betray me like this? I sucked his dick for a year and I get treated like this? It's not right! Hadassah told me I lacked the talent I needed, but I really tried! It's just not fair. Why has god abandoned me. Oh woe, woe, woe!"

27. KKKarl will not let McCain choose Lieberman.
They will lose the Evangelical vote by choosing someone who is Jewish and pro-choice. McCain has hired the Karl Rove team to put him in the White House. He has totally forgotten what Karl Rove and Bush did to him 8 years ago. He has abandoned all scruples and morals in an attempt to win the White House. Just take a look at the Rove style political ads that are out there from McCain. Negative ads work. McCain has gained in the polls since he began to take their advice. He is no maverick and he will do whatever Karl Rove thinks is best despite what Joe the Liar is hoping for.
