Pray for NOLA

I am a meteorologist.. and while it is too early to tell exactly where Gustav will go .. it is getting very scary.. Here is part of the latest discussion on Gustav from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) ...

THE INTENSITY
FORECAST IS INCREASED OVER THE PREVIOUS FORECAST IN BEST AGREEMENT
WITH THE GFDL. HOWEVER...IT WOULD BE NO SURPRISE IF RAPID
INTENSIFICATION OCCURRED AND GUSTAV BECAME A CATEGORY 4 OR 5
HURRICANE BY 72 HR.

1. Oh no.
I remember reading that warning that NOAA released just before Katrina hit. Scary stuff.

I hope evacuation of people is underway.

3. Prayer for NOLA and the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the
Alabama coast and the Louisiana coast.

We all suffered Katrina's devastation and we face this storm - it is too soon.

I hope with everything in me that this does not become another Katrina like catastrophe.

7. I'm two hours north of ground zero....safe and far enough inland to escape serious damage...
but near enough to feel the full measure of the misery and pain. I hope my friends who had the guts to go home and rebuild are spared this misery. If they can't be spared, they'll be okay-they can make it. They've survived worse.

Long live New Orleans and her spirit!

9. I'm at least 1200 miles away
And I still feel the pain of 2005. I can't believe that the city was just abandoned, so much to be done and now it's coming again? Horror! In a country like this How? Why? It's insane. I will be thinking of this constantly this week. I wonder if anything will be done differently this time? Any lessons learned to provide relief?

Look at the IR and WV loops at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/satellite.shtml

Turn on the predicted positions layer ("Trop Fcst Pts"), and you can see the official forecast is calling for Category 3 after it brushes the western end of Cuba.
