We have been blessed recently with many columns and letters attempting to convince the public that Barack Obama should get our vote for President. One thing missing from most if not all of these writings is anything concrete about what Sen, Obama has accomplished since entering public service. It seems that his best selling point to date has been delivering a great speech. That being said, these are some of the things I think I know about the Senator:
1. He served as a community organizer in Chicago.
2. He served an unremarkable term in the Illinois senate.
3. He delivered a GREAT SPEECH at the 2004 Democratic convention.
4. He is serving an unremarkable term in the U.S. senate.
5. For 20 years he sat in the congregation of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright (enough said).
6. Some have questioned his relationship with the unrepentant radical bomber William Ayers (former member of The Weathermen)
7. He delivered a GREAT SPEECH about race relations.
8. He thinks that Americans who go overseas and cannot speak the language are an embarrassment.
9. He thinks we had better teach our children Spanish.
10. Sen. Obama is thought by some to be the most liberal senator in Washington.
11. He delivered a GREAT SPEECH in Germany.
12. He feels that Clarence Thomas is not qualified to be on the Supreme Court but that he (Obama) is qualified to be President.
13. He feels that the he has too low a pay grade to voice an opinion on when a baby deserves human rights protection yet wants to be President.
14. On more than one occasion while serving in the Illinois senate he had an opportunity to vote for a bill that would have protected and guaranteed medical care to a baby that had been born alive following a botched abortion. He could not bring himself to do so.
15. He says that Matthew 25 vs. 40 is his favorite scripture: “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” (see number 13 above).
I am sure that the senators supporters have many items to add to this list. I look forward to reading them. Until then I will have to assume that the Democrats should be nominating the senators SPEECH WRITER!
