:wow:

It's scary! They nominate a first stage Alzheimer's patient complicated with untreated PTSD who then in turn nominates a novice governor who previously was mayor of a small town from a state that has oil income out the wazoo as the Veep! And get this, she fired a dude who refused to fire a cop that her sister was in a divorce process with.

Are they TRYING to lose? WTF is their strategery?

I'm not liking this at all. It's like they all know it doesn't matter because they have it in the bag or something.

:scared:

1. could be - then they can say Obama "messed"
things up in 2012 and run Mittens...

I think they felt it was McLame's turn.

2. This way they can say they've given a woman a chance.
They gave McCain his proper respect.

They know that they don't have a chance to keep the White House in 2008.

5. McCain is a loser trying to get a boost from a decent person
Sarah is not the evil person DUers are making her out to be.

The 'Conservatives' up here hate her and are after her for that stupid ass cop thing because they are trying to cover up the corruption of Don Young and Stevens. Stevens just won his primary, and Don Young is close with absentee ballots still being counted. At one point his opponent was winning...can you say election fraud?? Anyhow, the 'Conservatives' up here who love their pork think the corrupt bastards are great but are after Sarah...that should tell us something??

Maybe it tells us that she's not (yet) tied into the old-boy corruption network in Alaska.

But it doesn't refute the fact that she's another hypocritical social conservative with the temperment of a Tanya Harding. (hat tip to mediaman007 for the http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x3879784">PERFECT call.)

Sarah Palin: Dominionist Stalking Horse
by dogemperor

Fri Aug 29, 2008 at 03:21:50 PM PDT

The big news, obviously, in the blogosphere today is John McCain's surprise pick for the Republican veep nominee--a relative unknown by the name of Sarah Palin, whom--at least in the more conventional political circles--would appear to be a complete cypher.

Unfortunately, if one digs just a bit deeper, Palin is found to have some very interesting--and very disturbing--connections...among them, being potentially the first Assemblies-linked VP candidate and having a number of links to dominionist groups targeting kids via "bait and switch" evangelism.

dogemperor's diary :: ::
Sarah Palin's connections that McCain doesn't want you to know about

There are quite a number of extremely troubling links between Sarah Palin and neopentecostal dominionists--enough that, in truth, she may be ultimately as much of a "dream candidate" for the dominionist movement as Mike Huckabee was. Even worse, she's running in a manner that has been frighteningly successful for dominionist groups since the early 80's--specifically, as a "stealth candidate".

Add this to anti-environmentalism, climate change denial, NRA fanaticism, and the totally inappropriate involvement of her husband in her government job, and you MUST assume that she is BAD NEWS until proven otherwise.

This is the GOP, and my basic assumption is they are either CROOKS, CRONIES, or IDEOLOGUES. SP sure smells like an ideologue.

The odds are greater than even that 2009 will see an economic collapse, with over $400 billion in bank failures and unemployment easily above 8%.

9. Love spat?
I heard it was an incident of relationship violence. If that's the case, I would certainly hope that DU wouldn't qualify it as a love-spat. In the course of promoting a Democrat ticket and platform (including more funding for VAWA?), we should not lose sight of those values we are supposed to represent.

20. The longer I think about it...
If McCain has an unfortunate "incident" soon after election... she then would become the ultimate puppet president for Cheney and KKKarl.

I'm not saying that's the plan, I'm just saying I wouldn't put ANYTHING past those Neo-Con-Artists.

14. Here's the pitch:
"He's a bitter, old angry ex-POW and general grumpy Gus. He's sometimes confused on the issues, like what countries have borders with other countries, and which ones even exist any more. And he's voted in lockstep with the current disliked administration 90-100% of the time.

She's a "hockey mom" from Alaska who has been governor for less than two years, and before that was mayor of a town of 6500. She's anti-choice, anti-environment, and she shoots guns and eats meat! She also happens to be under scrutiny for possible ethics violations. And hey, she's kind of hot!

But they're coming together to challenge the first black candidate for President of the United States!"

If i pitched that to a network, I'd be laughed off the lot. Even the CW wouldn't go for that. And they did "Homeboys in Outer Space", for fuck's sake.

15. I think they picked her because she's female
They're banking on people aren't paying attention to the facts and they are pandering to the semi racist moderate women and men that can't bring themselves to trust Obama. They are trying to dupe voters into believe they are somewhat progressive and different than the run of the mill repuke.

If the American people don't vote the issues and aren't paying attention they'll fall prey again to the same old manipulation tactics.

Never underestimate the stupidity of our citizenry.

17. No, we just don't see their strengths yet
It's like a game of chess, your opponent makes a strange move in the opening, you think it's a weakness and try to exploit it, but in doing so you weaken your own position. They don't intend to lose, they intend to draw the Democrats into an indefensible position, from which they can gradually pick us to pieces. I can pretty much guarantee you that the indefensible position they plan for us does not include our having control of the executive and legislative branches of government for the next 4 years.

The response we need is much the same as it would be in chess. See what they're actually playing for, find the angle of attack. Stop gloating over a perceived weakness, rather look for the hidden dagger while carefully playing to neutralize their base and expand our own. Decline the gambit early, let their position expose its real frailties in the mid-game, then clean up at the end.

The way I see it, the real weakness of Palin as the VP is not her record, or even the lack thereof -- that is probably the gambit the GOP would love to see the Obama campaign accept. The primary real weakness is that it could be a lackluster pick that won't pull in moderate female voters the way other possibilities might have (e.g., Olympia Snowe), while it could certainly demotivate some hard-core religious conservatives who dislike the idea of having female leadership at all.

You make me glad that I'm not the only one thinking like this. They have made such and incredible mess out of the whole world, put us in such deep debt, messed up the tax base, used the national treasury like an ATM, destroyed the military, destroyed our international standing, allowed scandal after scandal, it's like they want to ruin the country. It's on such a down hill slide I think we might get blamed for not being able to fix the fall out.

But I have even stronger tin than you my friend, I think throwing the election shows their main game will no longer focus on appearing to hold legitimate power.

That one didn't work out too well. Then they thought it was going to be Rudy. Ditto. Nobody liked Mittens. Huckabee looks crazy. Fred Thompson (remember him?) couldn't stay awake long enough to find the magic. Who's left? McCain. How far down the list is that? Same deal with Palin: McCain hates Mittens, Rudy's whole corruption-in-office thing hasn't gone away, Huckabee's still crazy, Pawlenty's got a bridge problem (not the kind a dentist can fix), KKKarl wouldn't let McCain pick Holy Joe (mavericky!), and Patreaus told them to fuck off. So that leaves Palin, who was Rove's pick all along ('cause he's got the REAL math right here, baby!).
