Fundies in Alaska don't believe in "fossil fuels"
I had a girlfriend who worked in the oil industry in Alaska for 8 years- the works- she was out on oil rigs and everything. She had an undergraduate degree in geology and she just assumed everyone understood that the oil they were recovering was from plants and animals that lived millions of years ago.

Except that she found out some of her co-workers believed the earth was only a few thousand years old. She started explaining the various layers of the earth to them and their answer was that these layers were created during the great flood- remember when Noah's ark was out there and the waters covered the earth for 40 days? That's when God created the fossil fuels. :eyes:

So its likely that fundie Sarah Palin believes something like this too.

1. And it never rained before the flood, either. That's right. No water cycle until
5000 years ago.

5. She knew I was a Christian and she was trying to make
sense of it- and I had a hard time because I was never exposed to that kind of thinking.

6. Yes, it's eye-opening when you are exposed to it. Mind-boggling as well

Aw, but apparently they DO BELIEVE in voting for a fossil, that is if they support McThuselah.

8. Yup. And the sky is a big curtain holding back the rain,
and stars are set into that curtain, and hell is under the ground.

Oh, and the fossils in the sedimentary layers that lined up to confirm evolution? They got that way because of the different ways they floated in the flood.

Of course, that would mean that single celled animals sank before the dinosaurs, but hey, maybe all the fat in the dinosaurs made them float!

:sarcasm:

10. Oh, it makes my head hurt.
I guess the flood really sped up time or they wouldn't be "fossils", would they? It all works out so it looks like it happened naturally but it happened supernaturally. People believe what they think they need to.

13. I've been reading a lot of books about evolution
and "Intelligent" Design recently. It's amazing the convolutions the right wing goes through to justify their flat-earth beliefs.

Oh, and my favorite argument against ID is the sexual instinct in teenagers. If a 'God' really 'designed' humans, she messed up but good there. Our sexual urges shouldn't begin until age 20 at least to conform to the 'don't have sex until after you're married' crowd.

11. So if the debaters are invited to ask each other questions, does Biden dare ask her
if she believes in evolution or the Biblical account of creation in Genesis?

12. I'm assuming that the moderators get to ask the questions
in the debates. Her views on the environment and energy issues are going to be a lot different from his though.
