Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The McCain campaign was calling Republican operatives as late as Sunday night asking them to go to Alaska to more thoroughly examine Palin's background, The New York Times reported Tuesday.
The team initially sent to Alaska to vet Palin, Alaska's governor, didn't arrive there until the day before McCain revealed her as his choice for a running mate, the Times reported.

McCain campaign says VP nominee Palin got 'full and complete' background check
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Sarah Palin underwent a "full and complete" review in which she voluntarily told John McCain's campaign about her pregnant teenage daughter and her husband's two-decade-old DUI arrest, according to the lawyer who conducted the background check.
The Alaska governor, who McCain chose last week in a surprise move as his vice-presidential running mate, also gave details on her controversial dismissal of the state's public safety commissioner, the lawyer, Arthur Culvahouse, told The Associated Press in an interview.
Asked whether everything that came up as a possible red flag during the review already has been made public, he said: "I think so. Yes, I think so. Correct."
Nicolle Wallace, a senior McCain adviser, told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Tuesday that Palin disclosed her daughter's pregnancy during the vetting process, and that the McCain campaign had been forced to reveal the pregnancy publicly Monday because of "lewd and outrageously false rumours" spread by "Democratic-leaning blogs and a few in the mainstream" media.
