National Enquirer has sent "Edwards team" to Alaska
Enquirer's Perel: "We triggered Palin announcement"

Radar reported last night that the National Enquirer, fresh off breaking the John Edwards scandal, was hot in pursuit of the Bristol Palin pregnancy story.

“I definitely think we triggered the announcement,” Editor David Perel told Politico this morning.

Perel said that the Enquirer has three reporters — from “the Edwards team” — up in Alaska. He said reporters were putting out calls all weekend to members of Palin’s family and those around her, as well as the family of the father, Levi Johnston. Perel said there was enough to go on for this week’s print edition, even before Monday’s statement.

So what about the media’s aggressive coverage of Palin’s child’s pregnancy versus not pursuing Edwards?

Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin attempted to quietly have her daughter Bristol get married before news of her pregnancy leaked out, the NATIONAL ENQUIRER is reporting exclusively in its new issue.

Palin planned for the wedding to take place right after the Republican National Convention and then she was going to announce the pregnancy.

But Bristol, 17, refused to go along with the plan and that sparked a mother-daughter showdown over the failed coverup.

The ultra-conservative governor’s announcement about her daughter’s pregnancy came hours after The ENQUIRER informed her representatives and family members of Levi Johnston, the father of Bristol’s child, that we were aware of the pregnancy and were going to break the news.

I feel for the daughter, but IMHO McCain and Palin brought this on themselves.

7. I wonder if we could get the National Enquirer
to start looking into the real news, such as election fraud eg. They certainly gained some creds after the Edwards story, so I doubt anyone can dismiss them the way they were dismissed wrt that story. But since they are so much better than the MSM at getting the story, why not put that ability to work on something that really matters?

8. the local RW 50000 watt propaganda mill morning guy said
(back when the Edwards thing was really heading toward the corporate media)

"It may be a tabloid, but if the National Enquirer is reporting it, it usually means they got something ..."

So, if the Enquirer is reporting it ... IT MUST BE TRUE! Their logic!

9. How Sad.
A Tabloid rag is now becoming a good source of investigative journalism, because the rest of the media has become such a joke.

10. Point about the "they brought it on themselves" comment . . .
heard someone say yesterday (it was either Campbell Brown or Larry King) that Palin should have known what she'd be getting her daughter involved in (media wise) - she is a journalism major.

16. Well bravo to Bristol
for refusing to be bullied and manipulated by her mother's politics and extreme ideology.
Sounds to me like Bristol wants to take charge of her own pregnancy, own up to the fact that she, like so many other normal teenagers, made an oops and as far as she's concerned her mothers politics and her mother's "image" be damned.
