Protecting the internet. A DU imperative.
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 07:36 PM by Dissent Is Patriotic
DU, and other sites like DU, have been and continue to be the only fora for progressives to come together and effect change. I often fear that without DU I would lose my mind.

Recently I have thought about the fact that if access to these fora were limited in any way, we would have much less impact on those that wish to ruin this country. My concerns are that somewhere buried in some piece of legislation would be some type of scary little posit that would begin to chip away at our rights concerning the internet (if this has not already started).

So, I guess that this is a question. Do we need a forum here where we are actively making sure that this is not happening, or if it is, that we are doing all we can to protect the only real media that exists today? Does a topic forum already exist here where this is discussed?

1. I share your
fear. Sadly I don't trust either political party when it comes to legislation for the internet.

2. It makes me so sad. Doesn't everyone understand that we
are not immune. We are not far away from losing the last bastion of free speech. This would be too much. Do you know if there is a forum here where this topic is discussed?

3. I would like to know how secure our identities are here. What's the protection, Elad?
Could they break in? Could they steal our sign up info? Passwords?

Could DU be unknowingly part of Total Information Awareness?

4. The problem with topic forums is they hide those things we most want to promote
A perfect example is the September 11 forum which is known by the nickname of "The Dungeon"

LBN and GD are the main street of DU. What is posted in these forums gets seen by everyone.

If you give something that is very important it's own forum, all you are doing is burying it instead.

It defeats your true purpose.

5. Thanks. I am going to work on some research and get something
poignant into GD. I appreciate your wise counsel. Thanks again. e

6. Wise words
and it is sad that these topics don't receive more hits.
