Bristol Officials Looking Into Decline In Drug Arrests - "reason for concern"
Bristol Officials Looking Into Decline In Drug Arrests

BRISTOL — - A sharp drop in the number of drug arrests this summer has prompted two members of the city's police commission to ask commanders for an explanation.

The commission members want to know why police made just one arrest for drug dealing during June and July, and why they seized less than $1,000 worth of narcotics in that time.

"I wouldn't say the numbers are atrocious, but they're reason for concern," commission member Raymond Lambert Jr. said. "There's probably some good reason this happened. Once the committee is formed, we'll find out why."

The commission unanimously voted to set up a subcommittee to meet with the department's division supervisors and top commanders.

1. Stop. Drop. Shut Em Down, Open up Shop.
It's called revenue appropriation. I guess cops' retirement isn't enough any more.

2. one would think that the community would be estatic that drug use/dealing is in decline

instead it sounds like they're whining because they're losing revenue as a result. I have the solution to their problem. Just have the CIA direct a couple of shipments from S. America to their town and law enforcement will be back in business making record profits off the people they arrest.

12. That thin line from cop to criminal is getting VERY thin indeed..
I wonder how many cops take the oath of office with their fingers crossed? Hell, "Dirty Harry" was clean compared to most of the dirtbags wearing badges these days. :puke:

3. Yup, that's what this War on Drugs is all about,
It's not about protecting citizens or stopping crime, it's about bringing in big bucks to a few select people.

13. You are damn right about that. Its all about money with the law enforcement INDUSTRY nowadays..
most of these hypocritical assholes could do real work in the blue collar world, where, if they got out of line, they would get stomped into the ground. Fucking welfare recipients, that's all these creeps are.

8. Bristol: CT, TN, England? What continent is this story from?
The link doesn't say anything, although the Smokey the Bear ad probably means it isn't England.

10. Thanks.
After I posted the question, I thought Courant probably meant the Hartford Courant since that's the only Courant newspaper I've heard of. It's surprising to me that in the internet age when people are sharing links to articles all over the world that so many newspapers don't adequately identify themselves on their pages. Many don't even do so on their homepage.

11. I see that a lot sadly, and I read a ton of papers from all over (link)
http://www.usnpl.com has all the papers by state (and tv news/college papers).

I have often found myself looking at the 'contact us' pages though when I find papers via google news searches to find out precisely what state the paper is in.
