W unloading property for move to Paraguay?

From the LA Times:

They have blogs...and one of them, Countdown to Crawford, is tracking Bush's last days as prez. Today's blog....

Bush's first Texas home for sale

The Countdown to Crawford blog reports that the Midland, Texas, home once owned by George W. and Laura Bush is for sale, listed for $239,000. Three bedrooms, two baths, 2,406 square feet. "

An enterprising Realtor in Midland, Texas, has come up with a new way to advertise a listing in West Texas."She's letting prospective customers know that the property for sale was the first home of Laura and George Bush, where the couple started their married life together. Listed for $239,900, the home at 1405 W. Golf Course Road has 2,406 square feet and was built in 1976, one year before the Bushes moved in.

"With light, airy spaces and a mostly concrete back patio ('low maintenance yard' is how Realtor Ruth Young puts it), the home is where the couple had their daughters (1981) and the future president ran for Congress, and lost, in 1978. It still boasts Laura Bush's original drapes, and offers buyers a chance to cook on Laura Bush's original cooktop stove."

Wrap...

1. They still own this property?
As for the drapes, I doubt they are the original drapes. Laura has a reputation for wearing the old drapes. Not that I blame her. That's just frugal.

3. Bwahahahahaha!!!
It's a wonder they don't change houses more often. Think of the opportunities for expanding the wardrobe!

2. I don't think Fuckface has owned that house
for a long time. It was their first home, where they had their twins, but I think they sold it long ago.

5. They did. The realty outfit apparently tried to peddle
it as a tourist attraction and failed, so now it's up for sale.

It's white on white with a little brown on brown and absolutely no personality, not even in the few photographs of way back when.

8. But, ownership?
It says here it was a museum - that doesn't seem compatible with private ownership.

Given the high tone of the Bush-Walker finances, it's doubtful that much family real estate is in any individual names - those things are best handled by trusts.

So, since 1984, it's been unoccupied, except for the time when it was a "Presidential Museum" (according to this link - http://www.homes.com/Content/ListingDetail.cfm?PropId=75621209&Display=AreaFacts).

I wonder how many exorcisms it would take to cleanse completely the entire dwelling?

9. Private owners operate museums all the time
although a trust operating as a non profit corporation usually does. When the nonprofit becomes a money pit, that's when the property goes on the market.

I doubt there were many takers to a museum like that, especially given the nature of the property and the lack of personality therein. Who wants to look at an essentially empty house staged with magazines and a couple of pieces of rented furniture?

Somebody was dumb.

As for the exorcism, I'd suggest asking people from one of the Pueblos here in NM, a Santero from Miami, a Voodoo priest from New Orleans, a local curandera, and maybe even a Catholic priest just to cover most bases. Then bring in a group of Buddhist monks to chant for a week or so, and most of the bad juju would be gone.

Then demolish the kitchen and replace everything to exorcise the stink of bad cooking from years gone by and the place might be habitable with paint, plants, art, children and laughter.

10. Given their penchant for privacy,
there is no doubt in my mind that the Walker family - if not the Bushes - would have had everything held in an impenetrable trust.

I know the Walker family. We used to live right down the beach from them in Kennbunkport.

So, that would account for the ads not mentioning even remotely that George W. and Laura Bush "own" the house.

That clears it up for me.
