NATIONAL CHECK IF YOU CAN VOTE DAY
I am going to post this every day until October 1, 2008. I am proposing that DU and all the other progressive organizations such as MoveOn.org, PDA, Sojourners, ACLU all state and county Democratic Party organizations and all Democratic Candidate staffs, come together and declare October 1, 2008 as National check if i can vote day.
I would love to see each of these organizations send this through their mailing lists send this out to their constituencies via phone, email and hard mail. Just today on yahoo their were two stories one dealing with the name place of US Senatorial candidates on the Mississippi ballot and the other dealing with the fact that 300, 000 people in New Jersey just found out that they thought they were registered to vote but actually aren't. There is much caging, purging etc being done by the Republican Party. I propose we do this and help anybody that needs ride or any other type of assistance in making sure they are able to vote. If we do it on October 1, 2008 many states have 30 day deadlines for registering. This would give our voters a few days to correct any "glitches" that come up. That evening I would like top see MoveOn.org DU and the rest call for house parties in which we would show the films about how the last two elections were stolen.

If we notify the press and make a big deal about it, I think it would accomplish three goals...1) make sure our people are registered and able to vote for Obama and the down the ticket candidates 2) highlight the past cheating of the Republican Party and 3) put the Republicans on notice that we will be more proactive and vigilant this time around.

Who is with me on this? I need help with it, to get the concept out to as many progressive and Democratic organizations as possible. My regular email is: pgtsndr@yahoo.com Best Wishes-Mike Collier

11. Call your county registrar of voters before you mail anything.
The Republicans mail things out to mess up your registration.

Call your registrar and get good directions.

Also: if you're getting this mail, so are your friends. ALERT THEM to the possibility that their vote is at risk and encourage them to get good information before they act.

9. Thanks
I feel this is really REALLY important...look at Ohio in 2004, Florida in 2000 and possibly New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado. This crap by the Republicans has been going on for a long time and it has to stop...please help me in emailing these other organizations and ask them to call for this...I think we as progressives could make a lot mileage out of this, plus secure our voting rights.

13. We just got our absentee ballot applications yesterday.
We are poll workers.

The application recommends that people vote absentee to avoid long lines. "This Election will have the largest voter turnout ever!"

anybody that can vote absentee should do so, and early at that. I would like to see that these ballots come with pre stamped return envelopes.

18. Thanks for this!
I know that I'm registered, but, I was registered under my non-hyphenated name. My SS# has my hyphenated name and so does my drivers license. I usually don't use it and I didn't when I registered years ago. But, I'm submitting a name change on my registration, don't want to take any chances this November at getting my vote counted in Colorado! It would be just like those bastards to challenge me on that, and especially in the Springs. So, I'm covered.

I guess what I'm saying is, don't take any chances on inaccurate information either. Leave them NOTHING to challenge.

Please help me spread the word!!! Help me and write to these other organizations...I truly think that if we have a massive one day national check in, that it would possibly intimidate the lower level Republicans enough that they may not try to fuck with the voting.

If this thing takes off, next election make September "check if you can vote month" which would take a major load off the elections office to consolidate it into one day.
