Hurricane Ike uncovers Civil War ship in Ft. Morgan Beach sands (Alabama)
(FORT MORGAN, Ala.) Sept. 13 -- For locals living along Fort Morgan Beach, a piece of maritime history is revealing itself. Uncovered by Hurricane Ike's strong winds and rough surf, this buried treasure is capturing the interest of beachgoers, like Don Gay, who hope someone digs deeper into this ship's mysterious past and uncovers buried secrets.

"I'm sure it was burned, so that makes you think that it was involved in one of the battles at Fort Morgan," says Gay.

No one knows how long this 150 ft. wreckage was buried beneath layers of sand, but a few days ago locals like, like Gay and his buddy Larry Wilson, discovered the skeletal remains of the badly burned ship.

2. wow, that's really really cool
too bad it took a terrible tragedy to uncover it. I wonder if they found any artifacts on the ship.

4. I watched the video. The female announcer would fit right in
with Dana Perino's shop at the White House. She pronounced "bow" like what you put on Christmas packages. I am sure she'd pronounce "wanton" "won-ton" like Dana, who knows her Chinese soups, but not much else.

5. And the ghost of Admiral Farragut says
"Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"

Wonder if this ship was sunk by one of those torpedoes.
