Rep. Nick Lampson(D) on Ike relief: "I hope some heads will roll in this."
Edited on Mon Sep-15-08 12:55 AM by Bluebear
Harris County Judge Republican Ed Emmett calls the flap "much ado about nothing."

...U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson, D-Houston, said he was told before the storm by FEMA officials that there was food and water already staged at the Ellington Air National Guard base.

"Now it's on the way? That doesn't make any sense to me," he said. "I don't know what happened ... The storm's been over for 30 hours.

"I hope some heads will roll in this," he added later.

U.S. Rep. John Culberson, R-Houston, said he was "outraged" at the agency because first responders at two staging areas are without food and water.

Stratford High School's Tully Stadium and Spring Forest Middle school are staging areas for Texas Department of Public Safety officers and Texas State Guard and Texas National Guard troops.

"It's just outrageous," Culberson said, calling on residents near those sites to share food and water with the emergency crews. "I think it's inexcusable. ... I was horrified to discover that our first responders needed our help."

1. They still don't know how to handle a disaster.
And they were congratulating themselves over their response to Gustav. What a joke.

7. They should know how to handle a disaster. They have been handling
Bush for almost 8 years.

3. I took calls at the Texas 211 hotline tonight. When I left at 11pm, we still had no
updates on ice and water disbursement. We have a few locations, but they are not open yet. Nothing on food pickup sites yet.

Projecting 2 to 5 weeks on full restoration of the power grid. Pumps do not work in gas stations, due to no power grid.

All impacted counties are experiencing water purity issues at some level. Boil Drinking Water is the answer.

I am going back over for a few hours tomorrow, maybe better information then

4. Boil it with what? Downed trees?
When there's no fuel distribution or electricity, what do people cook with?

8. I know. Ridiculous isn't it. IF you had a charcoal grill, you could do it there,
or a gas grill, maybe? Sterno stoves? I thought about that all the way home..

build a fire in the back yard and boil it there?

9. America, the Land where Incompetence Reigns.
America is full of competent people. But, the Bush Administration doesn't factor competency as a virtue in their hiring practices. They favor "party hacks" who will do what they are told.
